.
I think that most of the deleted scenes will eventually find their way online, and, as mentioned more than once, the rest of the extras are basically box-fillers, so those interested in the prequel/OT can get only that and still watch the deleted scenes...

I call crap on the notion that you can't tell the difference between Blu Ray and upconvert DVD on smaller displays at normal viewing distances.

At 9 and a half feet back on a 42", I can tell the immediate difference between Iron Man 2 on DVD and it being in HD.

I think that idea is complete bull....and yet, I hear it all the time from posters who have larger displays than the average customer.

Yeah I don't get it either, even on the worst quality Blu ray I still see a difference compared to a DVD

+1 to that!!

l haven't posted in this thread until now but l have been reading it regularly.
Merlinpants got the set early, posted his opinions of the PQ/AQ of the movies and spent time going through the discs to find answers to questions other members had about the set.
If it were me and people were dumping on me like that, l wouldn't bother going out of my way to do it again.

l for one appreciate his effort and his opinion has swayed me more towards purchasing the set when it is available.

Thanks!! I'm not sure about the definition of expert in blu-ray reviews though, they never states their experience and academic qualifications lol. We're getting there.

Pretty good review that was pretty much my summation of it, not that I have seen the movies yet on blu-ray but from everything I have read and seen about them I was thinking along the same lines how I would think the OT would actually be more impressive since they have a lot more to prove and correct then the PT did and I am not a huge fan of overly used CGI which blu-ray can really make stand out. Of course sometimes blu-ray makes older effects stand out as well but actually seeing something that was there for real as opposed to being digitally inserted after the fact always looks more realistic and impressive to me. Than again I grew up in the pre-CGI age where as someone that grew up Post Jurassic Park would probably say CGI looks better and is more believable.

AOTC was always intended to be seen in that aspect ratio... The old trilogy was filmed with anamorphic lenses to obtain the 2.35:1 aspet ratio. Since AOTC was filmed digitally they cropped is to 2.35:1, kind of like they do with a lot films that are shot on super 35... If they would alter the aspect ratio all you would gain is a lot of dead space (and probably mikes and stuff) you don't want to see. All the 'Star Wars'-films are 2.35:1, so why would you want this one to be different.

(I personally would have preferred a 2.35:1 aspect ratio for the 'Avatar'-blu-ray myself, since that's the way the non-3D (and IMAX) played in theatres.)

I grew up in the 80s. But I think CGI has improved a lot, nowadays they're really look & feel like it's there in the movie even on blu-ray. Transformers, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, etc the CG characters all blend and interact really well with the environment. That said, models still widely used today, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Inception used models for the buildings.

I do have to say Rise of the Planet of the Apes was very impressive.

Most Dvd's were anamorphic as at the time of their release people still had regular 4.3 displays as well as widescreen ones,so the dvd player could alter the anamorphic output depending on which type of display it was connected to.

In the old vhs days,if you bought a widescreen movie and had a widescreen display you would have to use your displays zoom control to display the correct ratio, this would reduce the quality a little, wheras no ajustment would be required for the same movie on a regular 4:3 set,but you would have much bigger black bars at the top and bottom of the picture.

When Dvd first came out anamorphic was listed as "Enhanced for widescreen t.v's" on the back of most warner covers, which ment no display zooming for widescreen displays, because of this you also had to be able to set your Dvd player to switch the anamorphic stretch off as on a 4.3 the image would look stretched.
Actually, the problem is that blu ray movies also have the black bars encoded into the movie for some reason. I end up getting grey bars on the top and bottom and in certain dark scenes, especially in deathly hallows, the bars are brighter than the movie!(And yes, my projector is calibrated with Avia)..What do people with 2.35:1 screens do? I saw a few philips models with this ratio.

Btw, I know this is kinda off topic but I guess we can kill some time

Exactly! Even on a 32inch display, I can clearly see a difference.. IMHO, unconverted stuff looks worse than without. You get an extra sharp image with jagged edges, halos, and artifacts..

People say the oppo players are awesome at this.. I doubt it but can someone who has seen an unconverted DVD on one shed more light on this?

You're the one who made that? Cool! Found it in another forum a couple of years ago I think, never got the source.
