As someone pointed out, if your receiver supports DTS, you'll get good sound already - and if it supports multichannel LPCM, you can probably set up your Blu-ray player to decode the DTS-HD MA to LPCM and send it to the receiver, too…

Interesting post on the Digital Bits on Spielberg's Raiders and E.T. being ready for a Blu release!
From the Digital Bits: "At last night's L.A. Times/Hero Complex screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark in Los Angeles, director Steven Spielberg confirmed that the Indiana Jones films are "coming soon" to Blu-ray...Spielberg reportedly made a point of noting that nothing has been tampered with in the film and there's no added dialogue, which drew some laughs from the crowd for obvious reasons. Spielberg also confirmed again that E.T. is coming to Blu-ray from Universal in 2012, but likely only the original theatrical cut. He asked the audience if they'd care if the "new" version wasn't on the Blu-ray, which generated a big "NO!" Spielberg acknowledged this and said he regrets making the changes he did for the DVD. " LOL |

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but the detractors who now have discs agree that TPM's DNR is a bit much, the green screen / CGI / live action in AOTC don't mesh well at times, and the various color timing (crushed blacks) issues are reduced but still present in addition to static grain in the OT.
I don't have the discs and can't make my own conclusions, but like this site's reviewer said, opinions and presumptions are unlikely to change. Those who expected great quality will see and receive great quality. Those who look for flaws will see flaws. Nobody's debating this is the best SW will have ever looked, but it's a bit much to assume "SW on blu" will be perfect or immune from discussion/dissection. In fact, that level of analysis should be expected given the passion among fans, regardless of their personal stance on revisions and all that. My posting history clearly states the following things multiple times: - expectation of high praise for the discs and A/V quality - inability to make definitive conclusions until one has seen discs for himself This site's reviewer pointed out flaws with the transfers. It was a good, balanced review, but in the end the number score seems to bump up to 5 slanted towards the "SW on blu" rationale. If all a person looks at is a numerical score, then so be it, but the review discusses the disc's issues fairly well and those can be lost in looking at just the number. Why did I cancel? Mostly, the change at the end of Jedi and I don't want to give Lucas my money any more. The review didn't change my mind. I cancelled on the 7th.
I wonder if Spielberg will restore the reflection in the glass in Raiders and will the BD be called Raiders of the Lost Ark without the Indiana Jones and the in front of it. |

Hang onto your DVD's. Nothing from the DVD's carried over. It's a shame too. It would have taken one BD-50 to carry over everything in its original standard definition format. |

With regards Easter eggs, are they even possible in the BD-Java format? The menus are the best on Blu I have seen, but they aren't great when compared with the best of DVD. Also, there are horrendous and jarring loading times on the special features discs because of the menu structure. I think Blu ray has definitely taken a step backwards when it comes to menus. Another thing I forgot to mention was the video clips in the special features are often not from the finished product. The escape pod lid is still blue in some clips, there are horrendous garbage mattes in the Jedi Death Star battle scenes etc etc. I found that quite odd?? I guess it does show what we could have got ![]() Also I managed to get through the entire OT special features disc in about 1.5 hours, including all the prop spin arounds. That is pretty poor and had little repeat value. Haven't bothered with the documentary disc yet as the spoofs feature still leaves such a biter taste in my mouth! Ooppss, there I go pointing out all the positives again. Damn my agenda, Noooooooooooooooooo! Last edited by Merlinpants; 09-13-2011 at 09:18 AM. |

![]() Didn't really bug me though, as the change was only done to the packaging and the actual in-film title remained intact. For the record, I don't mind little effects alterations like removing mistakes that they would have fixed had they noticed it at the time, like the reflection issue, or sometimes with wire-removal. But Spielberg even mentioned refusing to do that much, so I guess we'll see if his new mentality included actively undoing the minor adjustments done for the DVD release. |

Because "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" really rolls off the tongue. In fact, I think "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" kind of sounds better than the other ones. I don't see what the fuss is about. It's just to make it fit in more with the rest of the series.

Humble pie... lmao That is weird about the menus but no big deal I would think, good eye tho. I bet the team who worked on the menus just did not have access to the newly constructed films that Lucas was putting together in time to include the new shots in the menus. Really a shame that the movie trailers were not on this set I always felt movie trailers and teasers pertaining to the movie itself should always be included on every movie you buy. If there is an easter egg I think it would be funny as hell if they were the original unaltered trilogy with cleaned up print and options for DTS HD 2.0 and 6.1 tracks and Lucas put them on there and made no big deal about it. I would be laughing my ass off if he hid them on the bonus disc like that. ![]() |

Some changes I don't mind, others I do. One thing I'm not cool with is the whole idea that these are the films as they were truly intended to be because the budget and time has finally been made available to realise George Lucas' vision. If so (and this is putting aside all opinions on the value of the changes) then that's a worry seeing as though all these little tweaks have added a raft of NEW inconsistencies and continuity errors. If it's really necessary to change the escape pod hatch colour then the effort could at least be made to change it in every shot otherwise it achieves nothing but adding issues where there were none. |
