Boy, I'm underwhelmed by this release. I'm keeping ANH & ESB and selling the rest. I already put the empty case, booklet and some of the movies on eBay.

Happy with the review. Just wish my partner would not have to see the "Nooo....noooo"...takes away the feeling that you're figuring it out for yourself as you watch Vader's body language...
7.1-6.1=1

The difference is 1.

Let's be positive.. the Han/Greedo scene has been shortened. That's cause for celebration.

Maybe this is a "Going, going, gone!" situation and it'll be even shorter next time until the original scene is restored to its former glory.

Default UK vs US Version

What if any are the differences between the Us and the UK versions. Im from US but I have to say the UK version with the digi pack and the graphic on the BluRays are alot nicer in apperance that the US version. Also UK i think includes a Film Cell with each set.

Will UK work on US BluRay players and TV? You dont have Pal or NTSC issues with BluRays like DVDs right?

Thanks for any insight

My kids (ages 8/12/14) all prefer the prequel (I like them all).

Everyone has different opinions and why is it so wrong to like these movies and see them as 6 movies - one story?

Are there cheesy, awful moments in the prequels? Yes. But I can still enjoy them - I just love the action scenes and enjoy them for what they are.
I absolutely agree with you. And I know generalizing either side of this argument really only amounts to name calling, but it does feel like some posts like the one you quoted assume that people who like The Prequels are either ignorant of what makes a good movie or just have bad taste. It's unfortunate because people assuming they know what another person is thinking is what seems to cause these complete breakdowns of civility.

The Prequels have many faults, but I forget most of them due to those wonderful John Williams scores. With a set like this, the movies are so ubiquitous that if you're a fan, the only things to consider are the presentation and extras. I thought that review was very thorough in that regard.

Edit: P.S. Hi, everybody. I'm new but have been lurking here long enough to have read the entire thread from the beginning. I had a firewall at work that I can now get through, so I can finally have my say!

It certainly does not, because it does not have to.

The overall score is not the mathematical average you get after adding up the individual scores in each section (film/video/audio/extras). And this is precisely why reviews are written - analyze all the pros and cons and offer a balanced opinion as to whether or not the reviewed release is worth seeing/owning.

A terrible film with perfect audio/video scores is still a terrible film that probably isn't worth seeing/owning.

I am surprised that you (or anyone else for that matter) thought that final scores in reviews had something to do with mathematics.

Casey's review is as good as it could have possibly been - honest, very informative, exceptionally well written.

Pro-B

Have you read the shortstory collection 'Tales from the mos eisley cantina'?There it states that Greedo was only a rookie getting lucky in spotting Solo, and was really not even great material for a bounty hunter.Depends on how one sees him.

I for one think it really unnecessary that they changed that, but on the BD it is miles better than the DVD atleast.

I have been watching the european set this last week, and must say the look and feel of the US set is alot better. Better storage for discs in the digiset, but looks cheaper. I prefer the US discs without the art on it too.

Have not tried any of the discs in US set yet, but they are said to be identical in most countries.

Well said, and like I've stated before, everyone has different opinions and need to be respected. I for one prefer the prequels, but thats not to say I don't love the OT. Its the same for PQ and AQ, one man's 4.5 is another man's 3. Different strokes for different folks.

I don't think I need to get over anything as I wasn't angry or upset in the first place. You seem to be on the defensive and should take a break.

I will point out that posting multiple times in the last 24 hours for people to eat humble pie and saying, "I told ya so" seems to fit the category of rubbing something in others' faces. Maybe it's warranted but definitely not one-sided.

These past few months should be lesson enough that nothing is one-sided. Many people on here are trying to prove a point or validate an opinion. That's how these discussions go...

I'm in L.A., too. I can promise you that you won't see it till Friday. They take their embargoes here pretty seriously. Industry town and all. I tried to get a dude to sell me the Sith dvd early from a local brick and mortar store. Also tried Best Buy and Target. Nobody bit.

Apart from the obvious 3D release down the road?Sooner or later, the content must be renewed, and the only way I can see that happening is through videogames.Unless GL decide to make three sequels to the OT,but by now I hope not.Don't know if I even will see them if they come...

The US, UK and North Europe sets are confirmed region-free.
Rumor has it that the discs' contents are identical; with the audio/subtitle options varying depending on the player's region.

It's crazy.

2013 will be the 30th anniversary of ROTJ, the end of the OT.

2015 will be the 10th anniversary of ROTS.

2017 will be the 40th anniversary of A New Hope.

2019 will be the 20th anniversary of The Phantom Menace.

Etc etc.

The way the 6 releases are staggered, he has a "legitimate" reason to re-release these movies every couple of years.
