First of all, there's just a ridiculous amount of Star Wars-related content available out there. It's wholly unrealistic to include everything in a single release. I think we all agree on that much, at least. Realistically speaking, there has to be a limit set on exactly how many minutes worth of special features are to be included.

Once they've set that limit, they ask themselves a question: Do they split their allocated space between old and new stuff? Or do they fill it only with unreleased stuff, and hope the buyers will have held on to their DVDs? I'm pretty sure 99.999% of rational people will opt for the latter. Especially since most of us already own the DVDs anyway.

There's no reason not to repackage the old stuff on there, we have the technology.

Also "we have the DVDs" is a 10/10 HORRIBLE excuse. You buy Blu-rays so you don't need to keep DVDs. You shouldn't have to hold on to 6 formats of these flicks just to have all the content they could have stuffed onto a BD-50.

It doesn't bother me since I don't care much for the special features anymore, but there's also no reason to defend it and say "rational people" will hold on to old copies of movies on an older format and take up more shelf space for a few documentaries that could easily have been released in this "Complete" Saga.

Happy with the review. Just wish my partner would not have to see the "Nooo....noooo"...takes away the feeling that you're figuring it out for yourself as you watch Vader's body language...
You are correct. 7.1 will act as 6.1 as long as your stereo compensates/decodes/supports it correctly.
With 6.1, you get mono rears whereas with 7.1, you get stereo rear speakers.
7.1 sounds nice when something goes from left to right(or vise versa) and you hear it behind you. With mono 6.1 , it sort of loses that depth.

In this case, yeah. US is Region A, and UK Region B, but the Star Wars releases in both places are region-free.

Not when they're full 1080P, like these releases are. (The Lord of the Rings releases, for instance, yes you would.)

Rumor has it that the discs' contents are identical; with the audio/subtitle options varying depending on the player's region.

Have not tried any of the discs in US set yet, but they are said to be identical in most countries.

Thanks for the input huys. Now its time to decide to get US or UK versions

I assume the reviewer doesn't use a math average, so it gives them flexibility in determining the final rating, especially if its a film they didn't personally like but is widely popular? I recall a reviewer once gave Shawshank 2/5 as a film but still a high overall rating.

I just can't believe they didn't fix the sabers in Empire. Can't. Believe it.

If you absolutely must go down Revisionist Blvd, the least you can do is erase the flaws that were created during your previous journeys. Apparently it's one of the easiest problems to fix too, making the presence of those gooey popsicle sabers all the more insulting.

But hey, who am I kidding? Lord Lucas knows his audience, and as much as I loathe some of the alterations he's made, I'll likely end up buying this at some point. Empire's my favourite movie, so he probably had me at "1080p". I'll have to have a pillow to bite on during the "Vader Summons His Magical Shuttle and Alerts his Star Destroyer to prepare for his impending arrival" scene, which is as horrifying to me as anything in Faces of Death.

And now the ending of Jedi's been soiled. No amount of apologist rationalizing or "spilt milk" sermonizing is going to change that. I don't think I can stomach seeing it again, actually. But I'll love seeing 3, 4, and 5 in all (or most/some) of their glory.

I'm personally leaning towards the US release. I don't care for the digistack myself -- though I've only seen it, and not actually used it -- and I think I prefer the more spare-looking artwork on the US discs.

Unfortunately, for me the US set is more expensive than the UK one by a significant amount.
(But the OZ set is about $40 more expensive again. )

Im starting to lean back to the US version, plus i see that Target stores here in the US are offering 8 lithograph set with each one so that makes up for the frame cell the UK version gets.

Yea for me to purchase the set from amazon.co.uk was more than id pay in the US so I know what you mean too as being cheaper where your in AU and to spend to get it shipped to you.

GL makes his Fans life hell!!!!

I like the technical aspects of the review, but the commentary had way too much original trilogy nostalgia bias.

I for one think it really unnecessary that they changed that, but on the BD it is miles better than the DVD atleast.
Well Greedo even got beaten by Baron Papanoaida (the blue alien, portrayed by George Lucas) in a Clone Wars episode (Supply Lines, Season 3). Which is pretty funny when you view it into context with the infamous change .

Jango Fett actually hits something, which is more that can be said about Boba. So maybe it all makes sense .
