It sounds more like a justification to me than an actual explanation, but that aside, I don't take it as "classic" referring, for instance, to the UOT.
I definitely take it as him discussing the UOT myself. He's asked by the reporter about the version of the Star Wars films being released and his response that I posted is in reply to the reporter's questions regarding which version and the timing of the now current Blu-ray release. When he uses the word "classic", it's being used to describe the type of version, not the entire Star Wars series or individual titles. In the context of the article regarding the Star Wars films and their upcoming(now here) Blu-ray release, "versions" can only really apply to which version of the Star Wars films, as it's his response to a question on that very subject. If he was talking about the films of others when using the phrase "recent releases", I don't think he would have used the phrase "what we like to call the classic versions of things" to describe the entire 2011 Star Wars series. It just wouldn't make sense. The word "versions" would not be a proper way to refer to a particular movie title or series, only which version of a particular movie title, and the 2011 versions couldn't accurately be called "classic versions" anyway, only current versions. That's my take.

I'm not saying his response in that interview is proof that we'll get the UOT eventually. I just think it indicates movement from the "they don't exist anymore" nonsense he used to give us. In fact, earlier in the article, he even mentions that you'd have to do a full restoration on it and that you'd have to do it digitally and how expensive that is. He's went from "they don't exist" to "it's expensive". In the end, no one but Lucas knows if he'll ever release the UOT.

Primarily, the main purpose of this order is to maintain the surprise at the end of "Empire" yet it completely and utterly ruins a similar revelation in "Jedi".

Secondly, the films are numbered for a reason. Don't get me wrong, if Lucas didn't want you to be able to watch the 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 he wouldn't have made them or released them in that order. I prefer the 1-6 order myself but I'm not going to argue with the order they were released.

Third, none of the movies themselves resort to flashback scenes so why should the entire saga be subjected to a 6-hour flashback? It's stylistically incompatible with the films itself. Then you have the extreme awkwardness in regards to pacing when you consider the fact that you are abandoning Luke, Leia, Han etc. in the middle of their story for that same 6-hour flashback.

Finally, this ridiculous viewing order didn't come from Lucas or even one of the various producers, screenwriters etc. that worked on the films with him. It was invented by some anonymous internet nerd. I have a big problem with things like fan edits, fan-fiction, re-sequencing albums etc. It's arrogant and insulting to the extreme. Even with his constant tinkering Lucas has given us two perfectly valid viewing orders that infinitely outweigh some guy you met in a chat room or on a message board.

But hey, if you want to watch them in some nonsensical order and then rush to the internet to act like Lucas couldn't even get the order of the movies right then be my guest.
Very well said! I can't believe the arrogance of some fans either sometimes.

I don't think this question has been asked...

I saw the Blu-ray.com review... and it mentioned that amongst the extras are "spoofs"...

Anyone know if the famous "Troops" Cops/Star Wars episode made it on there? I think Lucas liked that one... it would be cool if it was one of the spoofs that found its way on this set.

It's a spoof... but the way it was done, with quality on a low-budget and with some seriousness... it could almost fit in the continuity of the series.

I am still buying the set, though I am completely and utterly disgusted about the double "No" during Vader's redemption. If you think the negative fan reaction to that HORRIBLE addition is just a small minority of fanboys, remember that the outrage did manage to make headlines in a few national news outlets. Not too shabby for fanboys whose opinions supposedly don't matter.
Making the news as no meaning now a days, when you have news on Justin Beaber because he made an order of Rice Kripies for breakfast instead of his usual Corn Flakes and it make's it on CNN, well that shows you just how serious you can take the news in our society

Overall, like you I respect their choice not to buy it since it's not the product they wish to own. I would and I have done the same of other things in the past. Does it make a difference? Sometimes it does and most times it doesn't. I do hope it does for this since I would still buy the original versions if they were release on Blu-ray along with quite a few other fans who have no problems with the special editions, so it's a win-win for Lucas. He get's new sales and double dips on some of us crazy fans

Really? I wonder how I managed to make that connection right away when I was 8 and watched the movie for the first time from a blurry betamax video cassette on a blurry CRT-TV.

Seriously, one needs to be blind or one has to have some kind of neurological face recognition deficiency to not make that connection, apart from a lack of common sense.

Exactly.

Only a fraction of it (about 2 minutes). It doesn't have the intro, probably because of rights issues with the actual Cops show or the Bad Boys song, and it only shows the encounter with the Jawas. And even there it cuts out before the troopers shoot them. They might just as well not have put it on the disc at all, if you ask me.

He was right, you were wrong. Why do people think it is alright to speak to salespeople like this. The customer is not always right; in fact most of the time they are a&$ho%3s. He was just doing his job and you threw a temper tantrum.

All you showed him was that at your age you still act like a 10 year old when you don't get your way.
