The 'talk' of how many times did you see it in theaters, made me think back to the all-night ticketline

The theatre provided power, and we hooked up a small setup. My amp and speakers, and a friend provided a projector and dvd player.

Funny thing about the movies - not just the PT, but all of them...

Here, now, I can find endless things to nitpick. The changes made post-release, the lazy storytelling, the skewed politics and hero dynamics. On and on and on. They are flawed on so many levels that multi-volume tomes could be written (and likely have if you collect the Internet rantings).

But pop in those movies? Any of them. One through six. And I'll watch 'em and be entertained for the 2 or so hours they each run.

And then I'll be right back to complaining after the credits roll.

I love the Star Wars films for those small windows when I'm actually in the moment of watching them. Lucas has made some great eye-candy and some great adventures (even if in critical analysis they make little sense).

Do I dislike the endless tinkering. As much as the next fan. But again, I tend to only hate it after the fact, not while I'm watching.

I purchased the bluray set for that experience of WATCHING the films.

What??? What kind of silly stuff is that, no one here purchases Blu-ray to watch them, they buy them so they can analyse them frame per frame and find things wrong with them so they can display their Internet filmmaker wannabe skills in this forum

The stellar sales for the Blu-ray will undoubtedly drive her nuts. Also, I didn't know Alec Guinness retained his merchandising rights. No wonder he was willing to do cameos for the rest of the OT.
The title of that article is misleading, if you've read it.

Well, as a non-obsessed Star Wars viewer ((I've only seen the OT twice and the PQ trilogy once), I'm pissed off the OT doesn't have a branching feature where you could choose to watch either the 1997 version, or the original version of the OT.

As for the 1999-2005 movies...pass. I found them boring CGI Fests. IMO, if it wasn't for the fact these were tied into the original movies, or if this was the public's first exposure to the Star War's universe, no one would care. The Phantom Menace would be the 1999 equivalent to that dragon movie Eragon.

My two cents:

I was upset over the changes, the apparent lack of polish in the color timings and saber fixes, and of course the lack of the UOT being available. I didn't like the box art or the packaging. I had decided not to purchase the movies until the price dropped quite a bit, if at all.

Then last night I was in the back yard grilling with the kids (my 7 year old daughter and my 2 year old son). We had these little flexible glowsticks like they sell during the 4th of July. My daughter had made a ring and we were playing catch with it. Suddenly my son grabs a glowstick in each and growls, "My lightsaber!" with a devilish grin. Within seconds the three of us were re-enacting our own clumsy Star Wars battles complete with horrible sound effects. We played for probably 30 minutes (well past dinnertime) before my wife finally got us into the house. I was out of breath from laughter and both kids had huge grins on their faces.

I realized that all of these nitpick-y changes matter for naught to my kids. I realize that I have instilled my love for the movies and the SW universe in them, and that I want to sit down and watch each of the movies with them. They reminded me of the sense of wonder I felt when I was a kid growing up with these movies.

I just completed my pre-order with Amazon and am very excited to have the movies on their way to my door for Friday.

+1. I really, REALLY wanted to love the prequels. I worked at a movie theater when i was 17 so i could be one of the first people to see Ep. 1. I was in line at midnight for Ep. 2 and 3. I desperately wanted these films to be good movies. Not great even, I would have totally settled for just good. But they're just terrible films, plain and simple. They don't have the fundamental basic elements that make a good film. Plots that make sense? Nope. Solid script? Nadda. Decent acting? None of that either. Great set design? They all look like video game cut-scenes. I was as disappointed as everyone else.

That being said, I might rent ep's 3 - 6 just to check out the PQ/AQ. It'll be a waste of money for me to buy any of the sets, because odds are i'll only watch them once. I don't want to repeat having to hit the mute button during the cringe-inducing audio changes in ANH and ROTJ.

El Jay, there are tons of themes and issues that can be talked about in analyzing the saga. You must admit that you can get more complexity and a deeper understanding out of 6 movies than just 3. And I HAVE reasonable arguments in favor of all the prequels, in favor of starting out with Anakin as a young boy, for the importance of JarJars role and the midichlorians. I could tell you about allusions, connections and symbolism I have found in these movies that would blow your mind. But I guess I would only be in for more snark comments and run into a brick wall - just like earlier when I tried to explain about the spirit-metaphor in RotJ. To some people sushi is a feast and to others it's just raw fish. When you don't take Lucas seriously in all things Star Wars like one would respect Tolkien with his work there is no ground to have a debate upon... Then these 6 movies are just effect-heavy action-pics like pirates, transformers or spider-man - but they are much more.

Sorry, but for all your talk about complexity and depth you fail to recognize that the prequels are in the end merely a high-profile failed attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle.

Forget it. He doesn't want to get it. He and others like him just blindly love everything Lucas did after 1997 and they will never try to understand how or why someone could possibly have a thought or opinion on any aspect of Star Wars that doesn't, at any and every given moment, match up exactly with what Lucas's vision is, despite the fact that Lucas's vision seems to be a perpetual rapidly moving target.

We have always been at war with Eastasia, and Greedo always shot first!

Changes I do not particularly like are Greedo shooting first, Vader's No-No, and the Junk Funk music scene. But that said, I still can't wait to own this set Friday and watch em all for the billionth time.

Thanks!

Exactly, for me, watching the movies vicariously through them gives them a whole new life. We'll be watching 4-6, 1-3 in our house. The OT will always be my favorite, but I know that they enjoy the characters from 1-3 (thanks in large part to the Clone Wars cartoon) so we'll watch those as well.

I'm kind of a Star Wars newbie and have a question for the fans. I haven't seen any of the movies in a long time but am buying the whole series. Would you recommend watching episodes 4-6 first or starting with Episode 1?

Okay, so this is a sort of off topic question but here goes:

From reading all the reviews and whatnot, the audio seems to be the best part of these blu rays. I've been using my TV speakers but really think it's time to upgrade as the speakers suck.

Now I know most people here have amazing home theater systems, but as I'm a college student with a part time job at the BK lounge, my budget is, obviously, limited. So don't judge. I've narrowed it down to two home theater systems:

Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Home Theater System
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-RM7...6018784&sr=8-2

or

Klipsch HD 300 Compact 5.1 High Definition Theater system
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

I'd greatly appreciate any help as I have no idea about home theater systems. I just want one that will give me awesome enough sound and last for a few years.

In the words of C-3PO "Help, PLEASE HELP!"
