I still have the OOT VHS copies. Have not watched those in quite some time. I wonder if they still hold up.

His stance is clear on the original cuts, so would it really matter?

Why would anyone start with I, II, and III?....

That's silly.

Also,... Where the Heck are VII, VIII, and IX?

For viewing order... and being serious for a moment...

I always treat prequels as sequels for viewing order... because while they are set in the "before time" they most definitely are effected by what came after.

When you release a movie 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 series... each one builds on the ones before.

When you release a series 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3... the prequels build on each other BUT also kinda reverse engineer the earlier movies.

In other words... IF 1-3 came out first, you wouldn't know where the story was headed in 4-6... until #3 you wouldn't know Anakin becomes Vader, Luke & Leia are his kids, etc... and that would make some of 4-6 a little off, since they don't directly follow 1-3. They kinda do... but they kinda don't too if you get what I'm saying.

When prequels are made... they are made knowing that they have to build to where the earlier movies start... and have a different feeling as a result... so even though 1-3 come before 4-6 chronologically, it doesn't feel like they are building towards 4-6...

It feels more like 4, 5, and somewhere in that end battle of 6 as Darth Vader is thinking of whether to save Luke or not... he finds himself flashing back over his entire life then we get 1-3, and then the finale of 6. At least that's how it feels to me... 1-3 are more "flashback" than they are prequel... So ideally, you should watch 4, 5, and 6 up to that final battle and then pause and go watch 1-3 before finishing 6.

Since that would be cumbersome AND for all the flaws in 1-3, nobody will argue that the ending to #3 is far better than the ending to #6... so I like finishing with that ending than the Ewok party and fireworks ending.

Why keep the amazon order?...

I cancelled and went with Best Buy but I guess that's because there's no tax here so the price was the same.

Amazon may not ship on time... that's ok right... no biggie... just wait.

If you are close to a distribution\ship center for Amazon no need to worry, sometimes they can ship the day before and still get it to you. If you selected Release Day Shipping then there is no need to worry. Case In point I just ordered a few things from Amazon, which just shipped last night and are due here tomorrow (this is with Free super saving shipping)......For those canceling I think there are going to be many happy people that normally would have had thier orders delayed, but now are being pushed up ...

Still not shipped for me as well although it says it will arrive on September 16th.
I pre-ordered it from Best Buy. I can also take the day off and go buy it at Target.
I already called them and told them if it doesn't ship I am cancelling.
I have been following this whole thread I don't care to comment on it. This is my first post in this thread.
All I do care to comment is I bought the six pack and I will be watching it on Friday. You know the original thread topic.
Now back to orders and jabbas singers and ewoks with googly light up eyes and all the other silly shit all of you have been debating for months.
I am going to watch the movies. Some of you take this WAAAY to personally.
Lucas owes you nothing.

I think "Duel of the Fates" is one of the best pieces of music in any Star Wars movie. I liked the back-story and explanation of the Storm/Clone Troopers. Obi-Wan and Anakin's final battle was excellent. Fight choreography is great, the lightsabre battles are fantastically done. Count Dooku portrayed by Christopher Lee was excellent, his gravitas and delivery of lines reminded me of Alec Guinness and the other accomplished actors in the OT. Ian McDiarmid was great in all of the PT movies. The set pieces and showing new cities like Coruscant made the SW universe feel much, much bigger and more expansive. Exploring the Jedi Council was a cool thing to show. The big ground and space battles were excellently done (for their time). The growing tension between Anakin and Obi-Wan created a FAIRLY organic way of introducing their eventual coming-to-blows.

I like many, many things about the PT, but you choose to only focus on what we don't like. I can think Hayden's acting was wooden and out of place without HATING THE MOVIE, which is one point you seem to consistently ignore. I am buying the "Complete Saga" warts and all because I like the whole package enough for the good to outweigh the bad in almost every case.

All your quoted stuff there is just putting words in my mouth because I didn't say any of that. I just said that the order these movies were available to be FIRST SEEN in the theatres was ANH/ESB/ROTJ/TPM/AOTC/ROTS and that way has been fine for everyone for 20 years. It seems to be the way Lucas "intended" us to see them since that's the order he created and released them in. It's hardly the same thing as watching X-Men 3 before X-Men 1 or any other example you have made.

My argument for watching them 4-6, 1-3 the first time is because that's the order they were released and it's the way everyone was introduced to them in the theatres. I can't think of a SINGLE other instance where I would say, ignore the order these were released in and watch "X" first because it has a number indicator in front of it. Not a single prequel requires that you watch it first, hence the name "prequel" indicating that it was released last but takes place prior to the others chronologically.

I don't think you NEED to watch them in this order, but I think it makes the most sense story-wise because so many things in the PT take for granted that you have seen the OT and are familiar with the world. Take it or leave it, simple as that.

I mean, GL is infallible, if he didn't intend us to see 4 first and 3 last, he wouldn't have released them this way. That was his "original vision". Funny how that works eh?
Wow, kudos El Jay! I couldn't have come up with that many things I like about the PT. Just watching ROTS right now, and I'm having a lot of trouble finishing it. It's just aweful. How so many people think this slop is better than ROTJ, I'll never understand.

If I were truly pressed to name 3 things I like about the prequels, they'd be Natalie Portman's hotness in AOTC, the fact that they left Han Solo out of them, and watching Anakin get roasted after going on a child-killing, murderous rampage in ROTS. That shit was just unnecessary.

I seem to remember some interview with him (it may be on a bonus feature from one of the PT DVDs, but I don't specifically recall which one) he was talking about the benefits of sitting down and watching them 1-6 and see how the whole story unfolds. So he more or less says that it's the intended order. But I don't think he ever goes so far as to say it's the only legitimate way to watch them or that there's anything specifically wrong with watching them in their order of original release. At least not in anything that I've seen.

So, while there's some truth in him pushing that as his "vision", I do think there is still some degree of inference on the part of those who argue that watching them 1-6 is the absolute only legitimate way.

For those of you wondering about midnight releases, Best buy is only having 3 stores one in Chicago, L.A., and New York. Also the Star Wars website says your local Wal-Mart store is having one including free cupcakes. and the first 50 people get a free poster! http://www.starwars.com/events/

You may send them to me I Only have SW on laserdisc and some donated (never watched) videocassettes that dare not be viewed (the cassettes, that is). I can't wait to see SW on BD, but do not own the DVDs! I skipped a step in the technology, but now regret it because they did not give us the older bonus features on the new box sets.
