Finished the final bonus disc a few minutes ago and overall, this set is the best Blu Ray set I own. A lot of that has to do with my love for the films but, in my humble opinion, it's just well put together, this set.

It stands beside the Godfather Trilogy and Band of Brothers as the Best Blu Rays of my collection. I greatly anticipate Ben Hur joining the ranks in two weeks.

I guess the final question is will Star Wars get another release on a different disc format in a decade or so?

Between my DVDs and this set, I don't care. I have all I need. The only instance of buying Star Wars yet again is if there was a severe uptick in picture quality for the six films, but considering where Episodes II and III sit on the resolution side, I don't see it happening.

Why does Vader say, "Obi-Wan is here. The Force is with him."? That line has always seemed odd to me. It's like The Force is Obi-Wan's sidekick or something.

I don't really like that green spark they added every time Vader and Obi-Wan's lightsabers clash.

Getting ready to watch ESB, now.
there are a few inconsistencies in the story lines from the OT to the prequels....especially how aged Owen and Buru and Obi Won look in the OT and they were so young at the end of EP3..Obi Won has no recollection of R2D2...and of course you never hear the name Padme..ever..but that is because there never was a pre story line and never was there ever going to be any more movies made no matter what Lucas says

Correct me if I'm wrong but Obi-Wan only lied to Luke about not knowing R2D2. When Luke's not looking you can see Obi-Wan quickly press something on R2D2 that made R2D2 project the holographic information, and then Obi-Wan pretended that he got lucky.

What I find most interesting about the set is the fact that, after watching Episodes II and III, you realize how great those DVDs were, in terms of video quality.

Obviously, Episode III gets a major boast in image quality between the DVD and Blu Ray, but Episode II is the film that pretty much dictates how the Saga will look from here on out because of the cameras they used for that film.

The image boast between the DVD and Blu Ray for Episode II is there, but it's not major. It's better than upconverted DVD for sure, but I'd say it's about a 35 to 40% image improvement for Episode II.

And because Lucas can't get anymore resolution out of Episodes II and III, the rest of the films will technically suffer for it.

Now, if Lucas just releases the theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy by themselves on Blu Ray, the sky's the limit in terms of resolution for those.

The Prequels will also be set at basically 2K.

Oh yeah, and a bad ad at that (say that three times fast!). The 3PO scenes are atrocious and take away from the drama that the showdown should be.

perhaps..but on first seeing R2, he clearly doesn't recognize him..I have a theory or an idea as an explanation..Obi Won himself has his memory or identity removed via meditation or by Yoda..he only responds to the name Ben Kenobi..this helps protect Luke and himself from Vadar ever finding him..but his memory returns when someone addresses him as Obi Won,like breaking a spell..you can clearly see he has some sort of memory rush on his face when Luke says the magic words."he claims to be the property of an Obi Won Kenobi"Ben then repeats "Obi Won" appears stunned, and the hypnotic spell is broken

food for thought as C3PO had his memory wiped..so was Obi Won's

I do wish there was a cheaper way to get all of the old bonus features without rebuying the DVD set I sold a bit prematurely.

well astro-droids all look very, very similar and it had been many years. Same with protocol droids.

Now waiting for someone form the Droid Defense League to chime in with "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE ALL LOOK ALIKE"

Haven't picked up this set yet but if I do enjoy reading these posts. There are some serious fans out there

PS Would only purchase the original trilogy since I have no interest in the PT after watching PM. Hayden's acting was brutal and he looked completely miscast imo

Default DVD Packaging, and Bonus Features are Still Valueable!

Just thought I'd mention that the DVDs of these films are STILL worth having for the packaging artwork, and especially the special features.

Some that I am missing on the Blu-rays are especially:

Empire of Dreams (Star Wars Trilogy DVDs) - one of the absolute BEST documentaries on the Star Wars films I have EVER seen. Especially the bit where they include the original opening crawl from 1977 -- the one without "Episode IV: A New Hope" added. This documentary is chock full of gems like that, and put together in a wonderful way.

The Beginning (Episode I: The Phantom Menace DVD) - This documentary gives the best look -- compared to the Episode II, and III documentaries on their respective DVDs -- at what goes on over at LucasFilm during the production of the current Star Wars films. This documentary goes all the way from the written story through to full film production. It is really interesting to see how LucasFilm went through creating the first new Star Wars film in some 15 years at the time.

From Puppets to Pixels (Episode II: Attack of the Clones DVD) - This is a thoroughly interesting documentary on the creation of a digital version of Yoda based entirely on the Yoda used in The Empire Strikes Back. Rob Coleman's team did SO well with a test where they replaced Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back that George Lucas gave the "green light" (Yoda pun intended LOL) to use this digital model for one scene in TPM, and then all of AOTC.

The Chosen One (Episode III: Revenge of the Sith DVD) - A really cool documentary about the creation of the first symmetrical Darth Vader helmet, and first donning of that costume since worn on Return of the Jedi! Hayden Christensen is himself even in awe of the chance to literally "become" THE Dark Lord of the Sith!

For these reasons, I will continue to keep and love the DVDs of these films. If you haven't seen them yet, they are all well-worth the current price of the DVDs IMHO.

Default ROTS Best P/Q of Saga & OT Whiners Stop Crying!

After viewing Star Wars (yes I still call it that), ESB & ROTS I can say that I was blown away by the image quality of ROTS. It was of almost Avatar quality! The sound wasn't as good as ESB but I think that was due to the sound technicians! Crashes and explosions were not as crisp and loud as ESB and Star Wars. I find it sad that so many people are upset with the few changes that Lucas made to the original trilogy because they are losing out on enjoying the epic films in HD sound and video. This is the best I have seen these movies look and sound! End of story - anyone saying that their dvd looks better either has cataracts or going blind! To be honest I don't mind the added CGI enhancements to these movies (in fact I think they become more current than before). But what do I know? I only saw Star Wars 1977 version 14 times in the theatre!
