Yeah, the PT has great choreography. Heavy on style, light on soul. You've got 80 year old men and little green monsters twirling and spinning like acrobats, and the whole fight I'm thinking...."cool. And....what?" Every lightsaber fight in the OT had a point to it. It's not about the effects being dated, it's the reasoning behind the duels that count. Anakin vs. Obi Wan Pt. I should have had such emotional force behind it that I should have felt chills the whole way through. Instead, all I could think of was how ridiculously fast they were fighting and when it was gonna end. How cool would it have been if Anakin was stalking Obi Wan throughout Mustafar, popping out and nearly killing him several times? Kinda like how he did to his own son in ESB. Woulda fit right in with the character right? But nope, everything is "in your face". Faster, more intense...but no feeling.

Wish I wouldn't have put it off so long. And I guess I'll wrap things up tomorrow with Empire.

Huh????

I have to disagree with you there.

This I agree with, as we would then get the UOT!

You know, I agree with you. I love the saga, but the cover truly sucks. I liked the DVD covers with the dark look of the art work. This new "pueck" yellow totally sucks.

Although I enjoy the super-fast fun-to-watch style of the PT fights, this explains why the OT will never be beaten as a whole. Well said - I commend you!

The first battle is a little slow but it's like a heavyweight fight between two legends. Little jabs here and there, feeling eachother out.

Firmware is up to date, the problem with disc 2 I read about prior to watching and sure enough. The problem with disc 3 I hadn't read about (yet?), so was wondering if it was just my copy.

Totally agree! Because a few years after they're released, they'll be changed so much they'll turn into the UOT fully restored!

1) You risk insulting and scaring off someone who may be considerably younger and therefore deserves a little slack, but whose opinion is no less valid than yours, and...

3) It's just a matter of time before you realize there are scores of films out there you haven't seen and about which you would resent be treated like an idiot because your opinions on them aren't fully formed.

Just a thought.

Remaking ESB would be a real good idea.

They are much wiser. The fighting in the PT is stylistic with a lot of wasted actions. It looks cooler for sure. The duels in the OT are more much grounded in practicality. Cinema changed a lot in the 16 years between Jedi and Phantom.

Plus the only duel that is really mediocre is the ANH one.

And you have a nearly crippled out of practice old man facing off against a slow lumbering half-robot.

Was the duel mediocre in 1977 as well, or were people ecstatic about it in its theatrical run?

Hello everyone! This will be my first, and only, contribution to this gargantuan discussion.

I've been lurking, just reading the feedback (and the bickering), and I've been a bit nervous due to all of the talk of there possibly being defects in the discs. From what I've seen, however, the playback issues seem to be most prominent on Panasonic brand players.

I'm from Canada, but I live in South Korea, and I had my set delivered to me from Amazon.ca. I don't want to return the set (though I've noticed that, despite being overpriced, the blu-ray set that was released here in S.Korea has the superior EU packaging), but if it turns out that my discs have playback issues as well, I'll obviously have to, which would be a bummer.

Anyway, I only have a PS3 for my blu-ray movie needs, so I was wondering if anyone has encountered any issues while playing the movies on a PS3 (slim, latest firmware)?

I've only just started watching them, and The Phantom Menace didn't have any issues (figures).

Just bought a 6 disc case and a 3 disc case so that I can use my own custom cover art. The order came out to $7.00. Take a look:

Yeah. The Maul/Obi/Qui Gon fight is definitely amazing, from an athletic standpoint. It could have been an emotionally involving duel as well, had all three combatants been written better up to the point of the fight. I WANTED to feel anger and hurt from Maul killing Qui Gon; instead I just kinda went, "aww man. That sucks." I SHOULD have been like, "MOTHERF**ER! Kick his ass, Obi!"
