Are you guys really going to start this whole debate AGAIN? Why can't people just accept the fact that even though you hate a movie, there are going to be people who like it. Are people really so insecure that they need to make anyone with a different opinion feel stupid just for having a different opinion? Just let it go for crying out loud!

Watched EP4 again last night because the oldest kid missed our first viewing. What a killer transfer! Just awesome. Very good sound too although not reference.

The only changes in this film that I dont care for is Obi-Wans new "scream" to scare away the Sand People and Han & Greedo shooting almost simultaneously. Han shoots first! Oh yeah, the Jabba Scene with Han at the docking bay isnt neccessary either.

Otherwise, the Battle of Yavin in this version blows away the original. A few of the background updates & CGI additions are also fine with me - they make them line up better with the prequels.

EP4 is still my all time favorite movie and the best Star Wars movie.

Why does it matter whether Han shoots first or not? Sure Han is a badass but so is Greedo if you think about it, he's a bounty hunter afterall. What matters more in those cases is who comes out alive.

It's been stated before. Instead of being lucky and reactionary, it portrays Han as not only a badass but someone that is at the least a bit unscrupulous and a bit underhanded. It makes his character arc with Leia and growing friendship with Luke all the more meaningful.

Instead, (at best) we get a guy who was lucky enough not to get hit from across the table when he shot. It's a change from a very well-loved character that altered the character in a way many didn't like. It's my least favorite change of all the changes Lucas has done over the years.

In short, illegal tying involves forcing someone to buy something undesirable in order to have the opportunity to purchase a desirable product. A fair parallel would be Lucasfilm attempting to force the public to buy tickets for "Jar-Jar and Friends in 3D" in order to see the OT films presented in 3D. The McCallum quote from earlier certainly implies that if people don't go see TPM that they won't do the other movies.
Give me a break. It's common practice in any industry to kill products if earlier products in the series don't sell. Your argument could be used to suggest that a TV show that gets canceled because the audience rolls off with each episode is guilty of tying, because if fans don't watch the earlier episdoes don't get to see the later episodes. It's not illegal and it's not unethical - it's simply the reality of business.

Did Han shoot under the table in the original? I think he shoots over the table in the SE doesn't he?

Well, it appears that 'Ray Park'(Darth Maul) didn't want to have anything to do with it as he is nowhere to be seen.

Are you for real? Hey, what does it matter what action or behaviour a character does? As long as they come out alive? Han not shooting first changes his character and makes Green Guy look like an idiot. Or a battle droid.

You just made the jobs of writers very easy! This would not fly over here in Japan!

In this case it was just one visual footnote of thousands that appears in a completely different context. That creates a tapestry of art and history. I wouldn't say Tarantino "steals" from 70s cinema either...

That's an interesting topic as I remember when The Untouchables (1987) was released, it seemed like half of the critics either said that it gave a nod to Battleship Potemkin (1925) or it ripped it off regarding the baby carriage scene.

Personally, I feel that it did BOTH.

So did anyone find any easter eggs hidden on the Blu-Rays yet? I'm curious as all past releases included at least one little extra.

How exactly does Han not shooting first change who he is? You think what we see in the OT is the only things Han does in his life? A badass suddenly isn't a badass because another badass managed to shoot first? That's hilarious.

And no it doesn't make Greedo stupid because Jabba wanted him dead or alive.

yeah, if you buy the complete saga, there are these three bonus blu-rays of those prequel movie/video games (well, they looked like video games since everything in it looks like PS3 CGI). I guess you can watch them as if they were prequels to Episodes 4, 5, and 6.

It absolutely does. It makes him reactionary and lucky instead of decisive, deadly, and more than a bit of an antihero. It's what drew many people to his character initially.

It makes Greedo "stupid" because he couldn't hit a guy sitting down two feet away from him.

Reading your other posts and this being your first time watching Star Wars I'm trying to explain things patiently but surely you've not been living under a rock and this isn't the first time this has been discussed, even in this thread.

To me it's less about Han and more about Greedo missing at point blank range. It's just an illogical, puzzling alteration and is neither necessary nor beneficial.

There's nothing more stupid than Bobba Fett's demise. So if you are worried that Greedo looks stupid - it's in no comparison to everyone's favorite bad-ass "but stupid" bounty hunter.

Han Solo is a bad-ass regardless if he shoots first, same time, or last. That scene is so minor. Tough guy in a bar. So what. The Greedo scene also doesn't matter because the new Jabba scene makes Han Solo look like a whinny biotch anyway.
