Technically I didn't say that they loved every aspect... just that they love all movies. People could love a movie overall but still have issues with one or two minor aspects of it.

Yes. Because... there was only a Trilogy at that point. You see, according to the calender the year 1988 came before 1999 when the Phantom Menace was released. It's really not that difficult a concept to figure out. It's still all part of the Star Wars Saga, whether you like them or not.

The word "original" had to be added as to differentiate it from the cinematic abortions (namely the prequel trilogy) that you claim, without any success, to be a valid part of Star Wars.

"Original" doesn't mean it's better in any way, shape, or form. So that's a nonsense argument as well.

And just because YOU don't like the films, doesn't mean they're not part of the Star Wars saga.

They are a valid part of the Saga, because they were made to be. Whether you like them or not.

And your mere existence on this forum is an embarrassment to all of us who haven't fallen victim to self-delusion.

Why do you constantly feel the need to troll and harass him? That's the real embaressing thing. You're not the god king of the forum, so you don't have a right to say who is and insn't worthy to post here. Or declare anyone an embaressment for having a different opinion. Yeah, but it seems like you had a biased opinion going in.

Of course there are things that could've been done better in the PT, but to call them cinematic abortions and unbearable is a bit snobbish.

I humbly ask out of curiosity - which subjects are on topic and which aren't? I 100% agree with keeping the thread focused and on topic. However, every week there's some subject that brings out some personal attacks and dissent, but it all starts with something SW-related, I suppose. May we discuss broader SW topics beyond the blu-rays or should it stay with the format discussion?

I'm simply tired of things going off the rails from the instigation and baiting that occurs (and is occurring now).

Okay, so back on topic. I just finished watching the whole saga and I have to say I am a bit disappointed in the set as a whole. TPM looks like crap, the sound was a bit low on ROTS (nothing adjusting my volume couldn't solve, but it should have the same levels as the other five films), and several minor issues with the OT still are there (not going to bother going into them). The extras (IMO) are of the one and done variety, nothing I will ever want to watch again.

So, to me, its a 'good' set but there is plenty of room for improvement (no idea how TPM made it past three levels of quality control looking the way it does). Certainly NOT the best release of the year for sure. I am happy to say I have it, but am not going to recommend it to my friends at all. Did anyone else feel let down a bit?

Mostly when watching the prequel movies and cringing at the horrific acting, uneven pacing, dated CGI, trying to defend Hayden Christensen's acting, the worst character ever to hit the cinema (Jar Jar Binks), or trying to understand how an Oscar-winning actress looks like she's in a school play.

Watching AOTC again today it's clear how over-processed and DNR'd it is too. It's really not much better than TPM.

I'm still happy with the set, but it's with so much reservation, I can't just be like 100% YAY, I have to be like 80% YAY and 20% BOOWTF...

Compared to the revisionist nonsense and the questionable quality in the SW saga, the green tint in LOTR is looking pretty tame. I think I'll watch the LOTR trilogy again to remind myself how good the Star Wars PT could have been.

DNR on AotC? I thought it was filmed digitally, hence no grain to de-noise? I wouldn't know though I suppose, I still can't bring myself to watch AotC again after seeing it in the theatres when it came out.

Watched Attack of the Clones last night. The AQ was outta site. Rivals TPM and maybe even tops it in terms of dynamics. Plus there was less Jar Jar.

I dunno, maybe I'm using the wrong terminology, but it's soft and blurry and waxy like TPM. I dunno what they had to do to it to make it look rough, but they sure did.

I mean just compare it to, I dunno, any movie from that year with a good transfer. Compare it to something like "The Thin Red Line" where you can see every individual hair on someone's head, every color is strong, the contrast is completely natural, you are basically looking through a window at some beautiful lifelike cinematography... and then look at TPM and AOTC. It's just sad. I can list easily 50 movies I personally own shot before 1998 that look substantially better than either of them.

The PT is almost universally accepted to be inferior to the OT, the least they could have done would be to give them incredible transfers. I'll sit through a crap movie with fantastic PQ and AQ, but a craptastic film with craptastic PQ? It becomes a hard sell. Take the "Star Wars" out of the equation and these are movies I wouldn't even watch twice on Blu.
