As far as the packaging goes: the 37 inch cardboard tube arrived with the plastic ends taped on. The tube itself is fairly thick and should avoid damage caused by direct dings. On the inside sadly there is nothing but the posters. No protection of any sort. So with all this the edges have slight damage that could have been much worse considering the 10 inches of empty space.

The posters themselves are of seemingly top quality. Colors are rich, contrast as intended, and quite detailed (the image has a printed texture to it that resembles the boxes on the DVD EE). Though I am not qualified to determine, they appear to be original.
While it is unfortunate they arrived with edge damage, this news doesn't surprise me. Remember companies like this, Disney Rewards, etc, have employees don't understand what they are sending is a collectible, so many just think people will tack it to a wall and that there is no value to the poster, but they are wrong. They clearly do this to save time, the employee simply rolls the poster, if not rolled already, and just tosses it in a tube. Yes since the poster is 27" side and the tubes they are using are 37" as you stated, there is 10" of space in that tube that the poster could potentially slide around back and forth during its journey to the customer, and that banging from one side to the other can cause edge damage, in some cases, pretty severe damage too.

Even studios, when their distribution companies ship posters to theaters arrive with very little protection and in many cases in very flimsy tubes that fold in one the sides, tubes that can easily be crushed in my opinion, which is why most posters that arrive to theaters have edge damage because they are intended to be placed in frames to promote the film covering up the damage, but collectors want near-mint/mint posters without this type of damage so they have to seek them out from poster dealers, etc. Condition is key, especially when you are dealing with something that isn't readily available and technically made for public sale.

I won't be discussing prices here on the forum, at this time I don't even know if I will get them. I have passes for the prologue as well, may go, depends on how much free time I have Tuesday evening.

I used to get alot of double sided ones from Ebay back in the day. Like the 2007 Transformers poster and Fantastic Four ones. I usually put alot of my posters into frames.

There used to be a time when all it really took to determine an original from a reprint was if the poster was "double-sided" but that isn't the case anymore as double-sided reprints DO exist so you have to be careful and there are those on eBay who sell them. There are double-sided fakes for all kinds of films now, Spider-Man, Dark Knight, Twilight, Saving Private Ryan, etc etc. Sadly there are those individuals AND poster dealers who don't mind screwing the collectors over and putting out these counterfiets, if you read through the forum enough here you will get an idea who I am talking about.

I haven't bought a poster in like 4 years. I think the last one I bought actually was the Transformers one. But I'll look through the rest of the thread. So thanks for the heads up then.

Hey Kinsella How go things?

Can you help me on a poster issue? I'm looking at this:

http://www.movieposter.com/poster/MP.../Mechanic.html

I've only seen it as an "11 X 17" Any way I can know for sure if this is legit?

I know the first poster was. I drove about an hour to go see it in theaters. They had it hanging up, but I have not seen the green one.

More than likely the 11x17 version you are talking about are the freebie ones that some theaters get in by the box and put them out on a counter for people to take. With regards to the links, clearly the studio issued an original movie poster and that more than likely is it, but the film was distributed by a small studio so I could understand if they didn't spend the money to make their posters double-sided for it, as the site links to single-sided only. The Mechanic was a small budge action film by a small studio so more than likely only single-sided were made.

The dealer in question seems to have two available, both the same poster, they are based in Canada, so there are times when posters are shipped to Canada and the distributors have to place a sticker on the poster (they specify one of theirs has a sticker affixed to it as well). Both of theirs though they mention feature some sort of damage to them. Do I feel the poster is $40+ with damage? No, realistically they should be priced around $10 in the condition they are stated as being in at best. Just my opinion though....

I can't really answer that since I never carried them, but as Zero pointed out it seems like the first one was the movie poster and makes sense since that was the marketing image as well. The other style simply could have been a promotional image released online to match the other one, but wasn't an actual poster. A small film like that would probably only see one poster released and it sounds like it was the one with Rainn on it.

For those collectors out there I am trying to find out if this special midnight release poster is a full 27x40 inches and if it is double or single-sided. I know there was a special IMAX version movie poster making the total number of posters for MI:IV to three different styles (advance, final, IMAX) not including this midnight exclusive version.

WBShop WBshop posters

So I did receive my LOTR posters last night, and they look pretty good. The edges were slightly damaged as reported by ChuckT43, but really not bad at all. My only gripe was my favorite one, the Two Towers poster with Saruman in the tower pictured from behind, was damaged a bit at the top of the poster - ripped and crumpled slightly - which was definitely not from shipping; it was rolled up in the middle of the lot, so I found that a bit disappointing. It should be covered by the frame anyway though.

Overall the rest were in really good shape. I did get one single sided poster, Aragorn as the king as pictured in Return of the King, which was a WBshop exclusive. It shows New Line Cinemas logo printed on the back. It is a little thicker than the others and also of very good quality.

My only other complaint is the $10 I was charged by DHL for bringing it across the border. Add that to the $15 shipping, and the $3.24 posters ended up being about $8.37 each. Still a pretty decent deal despite the Canadian surcharge…
