So what if it's Lucasfilm...what makes you think he's going to be directing or writing the thing? To me, all that says is the ILM is the main effects house.

The thing is if this film does well, it could spawn several new WWII films that use CG to show authenic WWII equipment. The thing about WWII films, including Private Ryan and Band of Brothers is that for those of us WWII history buffs recognize when the tanks and planes used aren't accurate and are just mock-ups made from old Soviet equipment. ex. Tiger tanks in Private Ryan were modified Russian T-34s. How to tell? Road wheel configuration. Small front wheel and large single wheels down the bottom....Tiger tanks had large wheels in front with overlapping wheels along the bottom.
9.9 out of 10 people are not going to care whatsoever about that. It's not about the correct lightbulb on a car, it's the story and the characters.

In most films, if it's close enough, it will do.

If you want complete accuracy, watch WWI in HD.

I was a bit scared that Lucas would go a little bit to overboard on this and turn it into a Bay Pearl Harbor, in short a video game rather then an actual war movie. Overall I will see it but still parts of the trailer that made me go a bit when it come's to the battle scenes but the rest of it does look pretty well done.

The thing is with CGI now, many director turn so many of the war movies into video games that have no relation to what the actual fights were like. From the trailer I think this movie as the potential to be 4/5 but might well be more like 3.5/5 because of the over the top CGI battle scenes.

Theater view for me. and reserve final judgement after seeing the full package

I am looking at you "hip hop meets nazis'
This is based off a true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, an all black unit in WW2 who were discrimated on but accomplished more than anticipated.
I take this very personally as I am in the USAF and there is alot of prestige in the Tuskegee Airman who have done more for this country than you could imagine, so u phaggot are the nazi and need to shut up and not be racist.

White america needs to get over themselves.

The world really needs to end this year.
Oh please. Are you really suggesting that the movie isn't getting noticed because it's about black people? That's ridiculous. Plenty of movies that star a lot of black people get plenty of attention.

Seriously, get a clue.

I agree. Even a lot of movies completely unrelated to WWII somehow manage to work in at least a holocaust reference. Meanwhile, how many big Hollywood movies have been made about the horrors of what Stalin did?

Natalie Portman once said that she gets over 20 holocaust movie scripts every month.

Some short historical background on why this is, at least from what I learned in my silent/post silent film history class. Also, FWIW, you might know all of this information already... so it's not necessarily directly pointed at you, but to anyone who is interested.

The reason we see constantly see Nazi movies stems from the era of the Production Code that was set in stone from the 1930s to the 1960s. The code heavily relied on what you could portray from a moral standpoint. Nazi's were seen as the opposite of good moral--the were the universal bad guys. So films were often made about them because filmmakers wouldn't have to worry about their films getting rejected by the Production Code. Also, another reason why I think there weren't many films that portrayed Japanese is that Hollywood really didn't portray minorities in films. It's widely documented that white actors often played not just blacks in films, but other minorities such as Hispanic's and Native Americans. Another reason was during this time production companies didn't want to spend the money on producing the Pacific theater. There's only one area you can shoot films about the Pacific... which would be the Pacific. Europe is a little more forgiving on location, plus there are strong film ties between Los Angeles and Europe than Los Angeles and Asia.

The Production Code ended in 1968, but another reason why I think you don't see a large influx of films on the Pacific at that time period was Vietnam was just starting up. War films suddenly weren't about the glory days of World War II but question the mistakes of the Vietnam War. With the focus on Vietnam lasting through the 80s, it didn't necessarily make sense to focus on the Korean War or Pacific Theater when there was such a huge focus on another war in that same region.

During the 1990's we started to see a slight shift back to World War 2. I can't honestly comment on WHY we haven't seen more films on the Pacific. I can only think of two films that immediately come to mind: The Thin Red Line and Letters from Iwo Jima. Other than that there hasn't been much, but if I had to be willing to guess: European World War 2 films make more money. Plus the Holocaust explicitly shows the horror of Nazi Germany.

Overall I agree with you that it would be interesting to see a bigger range of topics on war films. I just thought that this background information could give you a reason why it might be that way. Like I said, I could be a little rusty on my film history--so if there's anything that needs to be clarified, expanded upon, or corrected let me know.

The first trailer I saw of this was the new tv spot with the dubstep song playing over it. I swore it was a video game trailer with some bad CGI cutscenes. Had no idea this was a movie.

I watched the full length trailer and it makes it seem more grounded and serious but wow they really did a 180 on the advertising campaign.

For me, that is the problem. Having George Lucas involved is a MAJOR blemish for this project in my eyes.

This is so true. You could go on TV cursing out nazi's and no one will care. The was/is obvious in every entertainment medium from games to film.

This thread has taken a nose dive in the quality of its posts.

Edit: I just saw the t.v. spot with that song a previous member mentioned. Terrible marketing idea. Song doesn't fit at all.
