"at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail."

What a huge relief for them...

The BDA is the superior poker player.

How are any of these choices very buisiness savvy? Am I missing something here? Are they just thinking emotionally in this situation, is that what's clouding their better judgement?

Surrender Toshiba. It's over and has been for a while now.
I could honestly see Toshiba not throwing in the towel after all movies studios are Blu Exclusive

"We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players returned to stores, it's unfortunate to see Paramount and Universal make the decision to only produce Blu-ray titles going forward."

Default Per CNET: HD DVD Promotional Group's response to today

They're just a bunch of flaming galahs and those statements must be automated to sound so similar.

Is it just me or is the tone of the articles by Erica Ogg on CNET a bit biased towards HD DVD?

They have to be either blind or just too dang stubborn. They are going to end up supporting Blu in the end, so why waste all this money on a clearly futile battle?
They still have million of dollars in hardware and software on store shelves. Even if it's selling poorly, it's still selling. The day they announce the end of HD DVD is the day it stops selling completely, and they need to eat the losses. So they're going to drag it out as long as they're still clearing anything off the shelves.

I 100% guarantee that Toshiba will end this war by saying the following:

"While we will always maintain that HD-DVD was the superior technology at the best price, market forces beyond our control have forced us to do what is right for all consumers the world over. We are releasing all contractual obligations and will begin the manufacture of Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo drives to support our loyal customers. The consumer, unfortunately, was never given a choice in this unnecessary format war. The decision was made by retailers and studios for them. We find this unfortunate, but there is little that one company with the best intentions can do against the rest of the market."

I had some sympathy for HD-DVD's position, but now I just want to see them pummeled into the ground!

Hey now, don't go giving Toshiba PR people their press statements they get paid to figure out what to say. At least let them feel like they can still do their job after their product fails, even if they do it poorly.

Toshiba went all in quite awhile ago. The BDA is just taking their time counting the chips.

toshiba really needs to just let it go, and maybe even help blu ray. Only if Blu ray will let them play with the big boys

Toshiba has let go, they just haven't officially announced this yet. They new with the Warner annoucement a month ago that the writing was on the wall.

As many have speculated, they are just liquidating at $150 for these units. If they admitted defeat today, they would have to mark these down to $50. COntinuing a brave front means they can try and get a few more suckers to buy in thinking they are getting a good deal.

Everything that has been speculated has taken place so far.

Hate to say this as a very even formal neutral supporter, but HD DVD is done, son.
