But Lucasfilm does not set Amazons prices.

Yeah, they could call it "Jedi Fugitive" and Tommy Lee Jones could chase him all over the galaxy while Luke tries to prove his innocence.

Indeed, although people still like to say how greedy Lucas is, and how he milks the franchise with various releases.

ANH has a sharp and clear image, so does TESB. RotJ however, is very blurry sometimes, and lose a great amount of detail.

Some examples (they are scaled down, but the lack of detail is clear):

Image 2

Image 3

Fortunately this doesn't happen all the time (like the DNR in TPM), but it's clearly the worst of the OT as far as PQ goes.

You can't expect perfection with every transfer in the set yes their are flaws in the transfers in the OT and TPM transfers but not as bad at some have pointed out.
There are films much older than Star Wars that look amazing - because the studios involved cared enough to go into a meticulous restoration process, whereas the folks in charge of Star Wars settled for a half-assed job.

I am sorry I don't know what you are talking about. I am too busy watching The Complete Star Wars Saga on Blu Ray in 1080p with 6.1 surround sound since Sept 16th 2011.

Just kidding around...

I am not sure I understand your response here? The OP was saying how the Star Wars films typically never go on sale which would basically go hand in hand with the idea that they don't put them on sale due to trying to get the most dollars out of consumers. Which would be kinda greedy, no? Or am I just crazy?

Agreed on the fact that ROTJ has multiple soft shots (it also has some of the more obvious matte problems around ships), though I could only remember the Endor scenes being problematic (have to say it's about time I watch them once more. Just got a great excuse from here).

I see, thanks! I was curious to see if they would still continue with the 3D release, I am not sure just how well Phantom Menace actually did last spring in theaters.

Domestic Total Gross for TPM 3D was $43 Million or so. I would imagine ATOC 3D does maybe 2/3rds of that as it IS the weakest of the Saga (reviews and box office). However, that 43 Mil should be able to cover the conversions for the remaining 5 films.

Of course, this is George Lucas, and he could just quit after ATOC claiming its too expensive to continue to do the 3D conversion. This is the guy who claimed remastering the Unaltered Original Trilogy to current blu ray standards or even DVD standards was too expensive, and 3D conversions HAS to be much more expensive than that. So it isn't too much of a stretch to think he could take his ball and go home if the box office for ATOC 3D is weak.

Well he surely would pull off the ultimate troll when he would stop after ROTS saying "Thanks guys for financing the movies you so loathed"

Between the SEs and PT Lucas has been trolling us for 15 years, so why stop now?

For me the could be much better image quality of the OT and Phantom Menace, plus the terrible interface for the extras means I'll only be buying this if it gets down to 30 bucks, because I'm perfectly fine sticking with the dvds. If this is the best Lucas has to offer, then so be it.

This is true. He could do that, but I doubt it. He isn't a fool, just sometimes misguided is all. If he is really as greedy as most say, it would be VERY hard to resist releasing the last three chapters in 3D, don't you think? From a fan perspective, I liked TPM so I had no problem seeing it in 3D, but the 3D really wasn't impressive at all (more like "ehhh" than "wow!"). I honestly will probably not attend anymore of the Star Wars films in 3D because it didn't add anything to the experience. Seemed to be the same Blu Ray master (soft at times) for the TPM and I can watch that at home without the extra pair of glasses on my face.

Or did I understand that wrong?

This is the sort of thing I'd like on Blu, with original poster art for each
The theatrical version DVDs were craptacular. They looked on par with my VHS copy and worse than the bootleg DVDs I already owned. Lucas put no effort into that release. He just slapped an old transfer onto a disc and told the people clamoring for the theatrical cuts on DVD to STFU.

For that reason, I do not currently own the SW BDs nor will I bother with the Star Wars 3D releases. I'm not going to continue to line the pockets of a man who has so little respect for his past cinematic accomplishments. I'm glad the original prints are being preserved in some archive somewhere that no one will ever see and I know it's Lucas' right to do what he pleases with his products, but I can still think it's pretty crappy of him to act this way.

Greed in the sense of making inumerous releases of the same content like many studios do (a.k.a milking). Star Wars is released once for each format, except when stock gets rare.

Well, it was released in LaserDisc format *a lot*. P&S, Digital Sound, LBX, THX CAV, THX CLV, SE...if you were both a LD and Star Wars fanatic you'd go broke trying to keep up with all the editions.

No problem in your case, however you have to wonder why the error is made by so many whose *only* language is English!
