Yeah Romero has been a joke this year. Started off the season 8-1 but most of those wins were because his hitters provided him with alot of run support. If it wasn't for Laffey, and Villanueva the Jays would be completely out of the wild card race.

The good news for the Jays is Brandon Morrow is making his 1st rehab start in Triple A this weekend and will likely return to the Jays rotation in early August. We just need to survive till then.

Agreed, we just need to get to that one game playoff. The A's will be 16-2, in their last 18 after tonight. Hoping Texas and "Anaheim" will hammer 'em down the stretch.

Yeah a healthy Morrow and Bautista will do wonders for our playoff chances.

Feels really weird not having baseball at the Olympics anymore. It was voted out as an Olympic sport along with women's softball for 2012. I can see why though. Unlike basketball it's not possible for MLB players to participate. And without MLB players most of the best baseball countries like USA and Dominican Republic cannot send their pros, usually leading to Cuba completely dominating.

Softball was even more unbalanced with team USA all but unbeatable internationally.

Canada always had a good team in softball. Darren Zack used to be the best pitcher in this country and I played against him a few times back in the early 80's. We're both from Northern Ontario and, F*ck, was he good. He's the only guy I ever faced where I could HEAR the ball coming. Up here we call it "Fastball".

Chad...how do you feel about Dempster refusing to go to Atlanta?
He hasn't refused. He just prefers LA, so he's trying to use his no-trade status as leverage to get the Cubs to trade him there.

Blah, blah, blah, and once again you'll get beat in the playoffs as the old goats are gassed from the stretch run.

As of right now we're 4th in the division which would make us the 4th best in the division.....Great summation Walrus.
All you were saying was nonsense so I figured I'd just give it right back but more forthright. Actually I wasn't basing it off record. I was basing it off the talent level that is on your team at this point. It's a close race for last between you and the Red Sox in the talent department. I bet you will end up with last place in the division when it's all said and done. But if you wan't to look at the standings you're sitting 10.5 games out of first place. Yeah you guys are right in it for the wild card

This St Louis heat is nasty. 12 innings and they have to go back out in about another 13 hours or so. Athletes are something else.

I've heard a lot of speculation that they're going to consider trading Cliff Lee. They've just got too much money tied up in Halladay, Hamels, Lee, and Papelbon and Papelbon is untradeable due to his contract so Lee could be the odd man out. Obviously they'd love to get rid of Ryan Howard but he may be the most untradeable player in baseball due to the $80 million he's due through 2016.

If I'm Philly I'd do everything possible to keep the big 3 of Halladay/Lee/Hamels intact. That kind of rotation can carry a team to a championship even with a weak offense. They should have known better when they gave Howard that deal. He was never worth $25 mill per for 5 years.

They'll still have to pay a lot of the contracts for any player they trade, unless the Yankees are interested.

Lee and Halladay are showing that age is catching up with them.

We're only 4 games out of Wild Card, and once Bautista (returns next week) and Morrow (back in August) return we'll have an even better shot.

As for the talent department... i'd say the Orioles are the weakest team in the division as far as talent goes....they've been playing way over their heads all year. IMO..Adam Jones, Weiters, and Johnson are the core of their talent and their bullpen is the only reason they're still in the race.

Yeah but please continue to underestimate the Jays because come 2014 we'll be challenging you guys for the division lead...and we'll be doing so with a 1/3 of what your payroll is. Got Em!!

Well ditching the 'roids certainly made him slim down, but he also has picked up cycling. That alone will make the pounds shed off of him, it's an awesome form of exercise. (I'm a big cyclist myself)

Quote:
The Angels have completed a trade with the Brewers for Zack Greinke, adding to a stacked rotation and grabbing the biggest prize available on the July trade market.

The deal will send shortstop Jean Segura, considered a top prospect, and minor-leaguers Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg to the Brewers, sources confirmed to CBSSports.com Friday night.

Greinke joins a rotation that already includes Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and Dan Haren, and makes the Angels even stronger as they try to overtake the Rangers in the American League West. The strong rotation would also make the Angels a favorite in October.

The Angels beat out a strong field to land Greinke, who won the Cy Young Award in 2009, and was 9-3 with a 3.44 ERA in 21 starts this year for the Brewers. The White Sox, Rangers and Braves all wanted him badly, and will now be forced to consider other options.

Texas will likely turn to James Shields, although it's still not a certainty that the Rays will trade him. It's not as clear who the White Sox and Braves will pursue next.

The Angels got Greinke without giving up either pitcher Garrett Richards or outfielder Peter Bourjos, who were considered their two biggest trade chips. Instead, they gave up Segura, a 22-year-old who was ranked by Baseball America last winter as their second-best prospect, behind Mike Trout.

Hellweg and Pena are both 23-year-old pitchers currently in Double-A.

The Brewers needed a young shortstop, and also needed young pitching, since Greinke, Shaun Marcum and Randy Wolf were all free agents-to-be, and none were expected back next year.

The Angels' goals are more immediate. They spent big last winter, signing Wilson and Albert Pujols, with the goal of winning a World Series in the near future.

Greinke certainly gives them a better chance of achieving that goal this year. And perhaps in the years to come, if the Angels are able to sign him to a long-term contract.

It won't be cheap. Greinke turned down more than $100 million from the Brewers, and officials from another interested team estimated it will take $23 million a year, or something similar to what Cole Hamels just got from the Phillies ($144 million for six years).

The Angels already have quite a bit of money invested in their rotation, and also have Pujols making more than $20 million a year. But they could clear some money if they decline options on Ervin Santana ($13 million) and Haren ($15.5 million).

Foxsports.com was first to report the deal.

Sheesh, the rich get richer. We're talking a huge market with a lot of pressure to win a championship. We'll see how Greinke handles it.
