"The beginning" is subject to interpretation in the SW universe.

I recommend watching 1-6, if you go with George's intent, i.e. the internal chronology.

You are right. I should have said watch 1-6 as you indicated. But then wouldn't it be better for a Star Wars newbie to watch the Clone Wars first?

Hmm.... perhaps. I just don't know anymore My standard answer with this kind of question is always 1-6.

Personally I want it to be the UOT so we can finally put that debate to rest once and for all.

Unfortunately that won't happen until GL dies and the rights to his empire are in someone else's hands to control.

My best guess is the announcement will be about Ep1 3D on blu and/or Ep2 3D announced for theatrical release.

I would normally say start with 4-6 then go back to 1-3 but since you probably know all of the major spoilers going in you might as well start with 1 and go in chronological order. As a SW fan, it makes me just a little sad to be saying this

For a first time viewing, despite what others have said here, I'd say there is no other worthwhile choice but to go 4-6, then 1-3. After that, then yes, you can rock out 1-6 every time thereafter.

The crushing disappointment when the "fans" realize that his estate will honor his wishes (like Katie is not going to?) is going to make for interesting reading.

His estate is probably gonna be as strict as Tolkien's if not more so. But I hope George lives for a long time to come.

The news concerning a BD set that includes the UOT is too much to hope for, so maybe it'll be the TV series. Hope not though.. I'd like to own Star Wars on Blu. They shouldn't bother with news of 3D... the release of Phantom didn't seem to interest anyone, even the biggest SW fans in my group of friends. Especially with a single movie being put out per year..

I hope not. It is a business at the end of the day and if the original creator isn't around to get in the way of profit, the chances of UOT greatly improve.

I hope so! AFAIK, Tolkien never went back and made "SE" version of his books and what his estate is protecting is the original masterpiece works of the author. I genuinely hope Skywalker ranch decides to do the same for SW after GL is gone.

Btw, I'm not for the death of George. Just wanted to clarify before the GL fan police come after me.

its only a movie, no need to bring opressive authoritarian regimes into this

I don't really care what other fans think, I grew up on the theatrical original trilogy and it just makes me sad that I'll never be able to own it on blu-ray. The best quality I'll see of it is a poor non-anamorphic DVD created from a laserdisc master

Tolkien absolutely went back and made edits to The Hobbit after he began work on LotR. The 2nd edition of that book is different than the 1st... and he did other minor retcons on it in subsequent editions, to help it fit better into the overall scope he later created.

LotR also had revisions added (in part, to clarify copyright issues), but has had plenty of nips and tucks over the years -- including some supervised by Christopher, not JRR.

The versions in print currently are these edited/changed versions, not the originals.

So much for the theory that the death of the original author makes the originals available. Pesky facts! Always getting in the way of good old fashioned irrational hate.

Where is the passionate hate for Tolkien? Or Peter Jackson and his crew for changing them even further? Funny how Jackson can insert certain details, characters, eliminate things, and yet the films are still "true to the books". Lucas tweaks things here and there and suddenly it's a completely different film!

Thanks George. Nice to see you're still here too!

I've had a really busy spring and summer and haven't been able to be on here as often as I'd like. Just the occasional post here and there the last few months.

Maybe it's because Jackson didn't write the books and as a director didn't wait 25-30 years or longer to make changes to movies that were more than perfectly fine until he decided to add unnecessary elements to them. You think?
