People usually don't mind changes, as long as they're good. Nobody complains about corrected colors or the CG Yoda in TPM. But the majority of changes by Lucas are lazy, indulgent, and distasteful.

I wish they had kept the old Bobba voice in ESB. Whenever Bobba speaks I still hear it in my mind, even if it's dubbed by that PT clone, now.

Temuera Morrison's dubs are horrible. The original Boba was so menacing. The 2004 one doesn't sound intimidating at all. One of the worst changes for sure.

Who are you to decide if the reasons behind the changes are right or wrong? For Lucas, his changes were made for the right reasons. But are you really saying that it was all a marketing ploy? Really?

For you, maybe. I don't agree with all of them, but that's as far as it goes. But how is a change lazy? The fact that it's a change implies care and work, therefore not lazy.

Where is the passionate hate for Tolkien? Or Peter Jackson and his crew for changing them even further? Funny how Jackson can insert certain details, characters, eliminate things, and yet the films are still "true to the books". Lucas tweaks things here and there and suddenly it's a completely different film!

LotR also had revisions added (in part, to clarify copyright issues), but has had plenty of nips and tucks over the years -- including some supervised by Christopher, not JRR.

The versions in print currently are these edited/changed versions, not the originals.
We've come full circle!
Anyway, not a valid comparison at all. Works of ink on paper have nothing to do with visual and audio fidelity, something replicating a theatrical presentation in the home hinges upon.

And the original facsimile edition is still in the works and will be made for release anyway.... more for posterity than anything else (Lucas take note.)

I never even considered what they ate and drank in the SW universe until I watched Clone Wars. The kids on Mandalor drink bottled tea beverages. That suggests bottling plants. I wonder about some of it. I can just see Yoda powering down powdered donuts and pringles. I know it sounds silly, but this is the crap I wonder about in my deep thinking on SW.

Hey, maybe Lucas will start editing in product placement.

Default Should I... ?

A friend is trying to convince me to buy this set.
After explaining that I wanted the original versions of the films available before I drop a dime on this set, he tried telling me that there is an option for you to select when beginning one of the movies; he says that you simply select if you want the "remastered" edition of the film, you select that when beginning each film, or, if you want the original film(for Star Wars = 1977, Empire = 1980, and Jedi =1983) you just select that.
He swears it is in this box set. Is that true ???
Can someone clarify for me ??? Because, I don't believe this.

No.

P.S: But I'd ask him to prove it, just to see how he goes.

These are big apples and oranges.

The changes PJ made were (mostly) due to book-to-film transition. You really thought going to LOTR you'd be getting an exact copy of the book...? You have 2 DVD editions: theatrical, and extended. He didn't add needless effects, he didn't force any musical numbers (and now...the king of the dead tap dance!) down our throat, or add a "no" in the third film just because someone said "no" in the first film!

Then you have GL. You have a perfectly fine trilogy for thirty - that's 30 - years. All of a sudden it's not good enough. He changes 'who shot first.' He adds a musical number, which of course we all found missing. Han steps on Jabba's tail. He puts R2 behind a rock to...? gives strange vocal abilities to Ben Kenobi and of course, the creme de la creme - Vader's "D'oooooh!"

Anyone hear of the Revisited Fan edition? Once you play that one (assuming you own a legit copy to start for legal reasons, which 99.9% do), its impossible to go back to any Special Edition version.

If you haven't its on FB

1. NYorker's sums up my thoughts on the matter.
2. No one is "hating" Tolkien or Jackson because the changes aren't nearly as invasive and arguably as insulting than those that exist in the SW SEs (and continue to change for the worse).
3. I am not afraid of change and actually liked some of what was done in the OT. I only argue that the classic versions be made available at some point for the fans that grew up with the movies in their original form.
4. I just realized I'm responding to a suspended member

I've seen Ep4 and it is a damn good job overall. I'm definitely looking forward to Ep5: Revisited.

Blade Runner The Final Cut = My favorite movie of all time.

What George Lucas has done to Star Wars is the exact opposite as what was done to Blade Runner.

George Lucas seems to be okay with milking the franchise except for making episodes 7-9. But, since we have all of the original cast (except Alec Guiness) still alive, why not do a DC animated thing. Like have the original cast do a direct to video animated films that adapt some of the fan favorite novels like the Thrawn Trilogy. I think it's a wasted opportunity to not do anything like this. They could even do old republic movies, and not have to worry about the budget/box office.

if Lucas does give us the originals as they were released then that means giving us Star Wars, not Star Wars a New Hope, the most idiotic of the subtitles.

I don't want episode 4. just Star Wars, the great movie going experience of all time.

and while we're wishing for the impossible how about Paramount giving us Star Trek the Wrath of Khan with out the numbers the way it was initially released.

Best example I can come up with is Anakin at the end of RotJ. It's stock footage from RotS and comes off awkward because his actions don't fit with the scene. Not to mention that a young Anakin's presence doesn't make any sense, especially to Luke who likely has no idea who he is.
