I think being acquired by Disney was the worst thing that could have happened to Pixar, and in its latest output we're seeing the result of an adventurous story-focused approach to filmmaking being crushed under the heel of the corporate marketing boot ... so I don't hold out a lot of hope for Lucasfilm.

"John Carter" was hardly a favourable augury for the future of the SW franchise, was it?

The deal will be in place very much like Mavel's deals with Paramount (i.e. The Avengers, Iron Man, etc.). However, Disney is a company that strives to give its fans (and share holders) what they want. The Unaltered Trilogy will be released at some point in the not so far off future.

My guess is this deal has been in the works for a LONG time and probably explains why Lucas has held off the live action TV show for so long and didn't spend the extra cash for a 4K restoration. Why pay for it if you aren't going to own it in a year or so?

I am sure somewhere Beast is thinking: "Yes, this is exactly what 'The Creator' had planned all along. Sell it to the Mouse House to further prove that Star Wars is for children..." Just playing...

Yeah, the last thing Star Wars needs is to lose its gritty, edgy, masses-be-damned focus on story and character.

Hmmm, Phantom Menace or JJ's Star Trek reboot? Even though it won't happen, I wouldn't have any problem with him involved in the next SW trilogy.

Yeah, he is great. Steven Spielberg will do it, I bet.

He is a close buddy of Lucas', a long term partner of Kathleen Kennedy's,
and he has always wanted to do one.

That wasn't my point.

Getting the Indy and Star Wars film franchises and Lucasfilm was one thing. Getting ILM and Skywalker Sound is another. Disney just exploded their in-house production capability.

Yeah, but what business would write a check for 4 billion to purchase Lucasfilm, LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound,however they'll say say to Lucas "by all means, please continue your self righteous agenda of denying your older fans the unaltered original trilogy, we don't want those as part of this billion dollar deal"
