Well it is not the only place where it is expensive, I live in Denmark (Europe):

Samsung BD-P1000 $2.200 has droped to $909 now, which I have just purchased.
Panasonic DMP-BD10 $1.818
PS3 $945
LG Combo $2.200

Blu-ray movies cost around $60
