Got my copy of this today for $9.99 2 disc. Same display as what blu-ray_girl_fan had posted. Forgot all about this and looked at my collection thinking I had it but never have. I know this is a reissue but it' fine for the price I paid for it.

This movie is finally being re-released by Paramount this October, but does anyone else think that this movie should have been released on September 12 (since the 11th was a Monday) to coincide with the anniversary of the attacks? Or would that have been in bad taste?

Maybe the longest blind buy I never watched - I bought the original 2-disc when it came out in 2006. Just decided to FINALLY watch it for the first time today. The disc won’t play in either of my Oppo’s or my PS4. Anyone else had a problem playing a disc of this vintage? I’m getting invalid disc or corrupted data messages.

I very recently purchased a pristine (in looks, at least) used copy of WTC, only to find it it would NOT play in my Sony (a 2016 model & currently my only Blu-ray player). I had wondered if anyone else had same problem with this title, and if so, if anyone has figured out the reason. To clarify: The bonus features disc WILL play, the main-feature disc will NOT.

The 1-disc has two commentaries + deleted/extended scenes. The 2nd disc had the rest of the extras. If the extras are important to you, then you would need to track down the 2-disc. If you're just interested in the film, then the 1-disc currently available is the same as originally issued in 2006.

I was not going to take the time to comment on this 2006 movie, but this movie is so will done I had to watch it again after 15 years. It is one of the best historical movies that Oliver Stone has made. Oliver Stone is known for making accurate historical movies. This movie had a budget of $65 million dollars and box office sells were $163.2 million dollars.
In a prior post about Oliver Stone movies, I have mentioned that I do not agree with his politics (however I should mention that is in regards to information online regarding who he votes for during the election.). While some Oliver Stone movies have been political. I should mention Oliver Stone movies like World Trade Center and many others are not political movies and he remains neutral when it comes to politics in most of the latest movies he has made, and he is just trying to be as close as possible to some of the historical events that happen on 9-11 . This is not a political movie and seeing images of Bush, and other political figures on TV clips during the movie was required to capture the story. Too many people have tossed in politics when it comes to 9-11, but Oliver Stone is telling an accurate story according to history without any politics. There are two audio commentary tracks with one being Oliver Stone and the others the hero’s that survived 9/11. Also the second Blu-ray disc was very good with various bonus features about 9-11 and even one bonus feature where Oliver Stone grew up. Oliver Stone was an ideal person to make this movie since he grew up in New York living in an apartment driving a taxi cab before he made a few successful movies (Oliver Stone grew up in the average New York middle class family that lived in an apartment and did not come from a wealthy family. Driving a taxi paid the monthly rent and bills for Oliver Stone until he became more known as a talented film director and screenwriter). In the ideal world this movie should one day be re-released on a 100GB disc using a 4K Blu-ray disc with lossless audio. Plus, all the bonus material on both Blu-ray discs should be ported over to a triple layer 100GB disc. This was just one 129 minute movie about 9-11. Maybe one day Oliver Stone or someone else could make a movie about the families and the terrorists that were on the planes before the impact occurred, and a story about the people and families that were trapped inside the towers that never made it out. When this movie was released in 2006, the advantage was it had only been 5 years since the event occurred and there was a lot of historical data Oliver Stone used including a plane taking pictures and computer scans of the wreckage. Now it has been 20 years since 9-11 and slowly over the years sometimes history can be forgotten with records being lost and people dying of old age that were eyewitness accounts of the tragedy that occurred. So, if there is going to be more 9-11 movies by someone, it should be done fairly soon so that the movies can be as accurate as possible according to history so people do not forget. Pearl Harbor had one movie on Blu-ray and one documentary on Blu-ray. I just realized that there was at least one more movie released regarding 9-11 that I have never seen before. Maybe sometime in 2022 I might watch it. Movie was called United 93. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Unite.../24644/#Review (United 93) Last edited by HDTV1080P; 12-19-2021 at 04:51 AM. |

That is a good price of $9.99 for a new two disc version on Blu-ray. People need to realize this was the first or one of the first dual layer 50GB Blu-ray discs released back in 12-11-2006 (most 2006 releases were single layer discs when the Blu-ray format launched on June 20th 2006). This two-disc version is officially out of print and might never be released again (contains one BD-50 and one BD-25 bonus disc). When Paramount Pictures re-released this World Trade Center title on October 24th 2017 they dropped the bonus second Blu-ray disc and then used the same master (They could have did a MPEG-4/AVC codec upgrade with lossless audio, but they did not do that and used the same master from 2006 for the 2017 re-release).
My point is currently the original 12-11-2006 two disc version is the best version of this movie, and that two disc version is out of print and might not every be re-released. In the ideal world sometime in the future this title should be remastered for both picture and sound quality. If it is in the Paramount budget a 4K scan of the original 35mm negative could be done and maybe a new 4K digital intermediate could be created. Then since a 5.1 PCM studio master exits already (but lossy audio was ported over to the 2006 Blu-ray master), the studio audio engineer could go back to the original master audio files and create a native 13.1 or 11.1 Dolby Atmos soundtrack. This movie would be ideal for a native 6 channel ceiling speaker setup using 13.1 Dolby Atmos (7.1 Dolby TrueHD core audio). Then in the ideal world this title could be released on the 4K Blu-ray format using a 100GB disc with all the bonus features that are offered in the out of print 2 disc version. Since we do not live in an ideal world, there is a possibility that the original out of print year 2006 Blu-ray version might end up being the best version every released for this movie. Future generations will have to wait and see what happens to this movie. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 12-20-2021 at 09:26 PM. |

And not to rain on this thread, as it is devoted to WTC, but I found WTC to be a big dud. Sorry, it was just two guys in the rubble, just uninteresting to me, very Hollywood, and I do mostly like Oliver Stone. There were also a couple of tv-movie like "The Flight That Fought Back" and something else I can't recall, which were OK, but UNITED 93 is still the winner in my eyes. But I agree, building a mini-series about some of the real people in the towers, and the planes, and the firefighters/police, and all else, would be quite a thing. At one point years ago, the idea of that seemed in poor taste (maybe it still does to some), but I feel enough time has passed, that if it were done with care and professionalism, it could work. Another one, maybe the best of all is the documentary feature simply called "9/11", narrated by Robert DeNiro I believe, which started off as a fireman documentary about a certain fire station, but started filming on that day and ends up having footage from the scene as stuff was happening, so it ends up as a 9/11 document of that horrible day. Harrowing stuff. |
