I believe you have to have a capable monitor/ TV 120hz 1080p/24 to actually see a difference.

The Samsung 4061 doesn't support 120hz 1080p/24. The 4069/4071 Samsungs support this feature along with the new models released this month.

I think it's supposed to eliminate judder but you have to have a display that supports it (like the previous posts mention). Unfortunately, my TV doesn't support it. I briefly played around with the option at a friend's house but not long enough to learn anything useful.

I have a Sony KDS 60A2000 set and it's the same way. What exactly does the 24hz add to the picture that makes it so much better? Movies and games look phenomenal on my set already.

EDIT: Oops, sorry owa. You posted while I was typing mine!

What happens is that you get what's called 3:2 pulldown. A google search will bring up what you want to know. Basically, it's showing alternating frames of 3 and then 2 to match the 60 hz. When you have 120 hz, your set supports 24fps, your output supports 24fps, and your source is done in 24fps, you get 5:5 and you'll get a better picture.

I'm not sure if all movies were filmed at 24 fps... isn't that what the 24hz really stands for? 24 frames per second? And the 120 hz TVs simply play each frame 5 times each? 24 x 5 = 120.

Anyway, I have a 40" Sony XBR4 and I know that it's a 120hz TV with 1080/24p. I just left the 1080/24 setting on my PS3 to automatic. Picture is always smooth and fluid so I havn't worried about it.

Edit: Blinkman beat me to it. lol

Yes, 24 fps is correct. Most movies I believe are Native 24 fps... I don't know too much on this, but it has to do with what was mentioned above, the 3:2 Pulldown and such..

I just leave mine set to automatic. I'm not sure about the "off" setting. If you have a display that doesn't support it, that seems to make sense. But, reading a few articles about this yesterday, they seemed to indicate the "off" setting was actually how you eliminate judder. Didn't make any sense to me but I read it in two different places. So who knows. Since my TV doesn't support it, I can't play around with the setting to see how it works.

120Hz is for NTSC signals and not for 24p, unless it can do 5:5 aswell. I am not sure if there is any real benefit to this, but the most important thing is can it do 1080 24p. NTSC signals are 30 frames interlaced which is 60 fields per second. 120Hz would refresh this twice over, every second.
