Yea, I know how you feel.

When I was watching that, I was blown away by the fact that it was the fans doing all this 'hard work' at restoring this very important piece of film history, and not the multi billionaire filmmaker himself. Unbelievable!

Not what would George say if he watched that?

Well, after much delay the Original Trilogy is in the mail and on its way to my house. I now have ALL SIX on Blu-Ray.

He's become his creattion's own worst enemy. I'm glad he's still around as a creative advisor, but no longer has the reins.

I look forward to Disney restoring movie history and integrity once rights revert to them from FOX.

And I just about remember watching A New Hope on release - first film I saw in the cinema I think.

Well - Disney is quite capable of focking the whole thing up too. They arent without errors in their past. This a new thing for them. How do you "restore history"? History is already there. We dont need them dicking around with the established universe or whatever. They need to concentrate on making the next 3 episodes worthy of the SW name. Thats ALL they should be worrying about.

I know there are some that might like to see them retry the prequels or redo something. No thanks.

The original color timing looks SO much better than everything that has been released since 1997. That would be my fear if the originals ever get released; will they actually refer to the original color?

When I heard Disney was taking over the franchise, the first thing I thought of was John Carter of Mars. I think the corporate mindset, and construction by committee, could prove disastrous.

I hope they find a single, strong, creative mind to take the helm for the ongoing story. I think that's its last hope. (Lucas is essentially out of the chair, but ... is there another?)

To me it also looks like you might want to set your TV to 1:1 mode, or whatever your TV calls it, if it supports it. The grid-like pattern of of the sharpened grain noise looks like a scaling artifact, though that can also be part of the image on the disc.

Good lord. When you're building your own film scanners, maybe it's time to sit back, take a few deep breaths, and just enjoy the movie

With any movie other than Star Wars, you'd be right. But this shows you just how loony Lucas has sent people by refusing to restore the original originals, and I for one am glad that there are folks out there doing this kind of crazy stuff.

Nope. It's people who do things as passionate hobbyists that become the top teir of the next generation of professionals in their respective fields. I think it's awesome these guys are doing this, simply because I love to see passionate people show their ingenuity and determination.

It also shows just how badly the community at large wants this to happen.

Bravo to the Despecialized team.

I don't even think they "built" anything, just modified what bootleggers have been using since the 70s.

I saw "Empire" and "Jedi" on VHS bootleg back in the early 80s long before they were on legit home video or cable. Pirates would "borrow" or outright steal a film print and make their own transfers on telecines...with horrible pan & scan. But to a kid it was really neat.

I had respect for him until he disrespected his fanbase by not giving them the option on having the original films (which I'm happy with having on DVD) that made him rich to begin with. The prequel trilogy also showed he is not a good director.

To be fair, I enjoyed the Blu-Ray version of Empire Strikes Back. The changes he added made it a better film.

It is, I was just zooming in on the most grained area with my phone. My TV is always at 1:1. But the grain/distortion is all fixed now and looks great

I will say the changes in Empire were better compared to the other two movies. One exception was the scene with Vader going to his Star Destroyer near the end - really hurt continuity of that entire sequence.
