The reason I asked about your calibration was because I was trying to figure out why I'm showing a night & day difference & you are not.

As far as Best Buy calibrations it was the worst experience of my life.

When D-Nice came in to do my calibration he said it was the most messed up calibration he had seen. He almost has to go back to the factory settings just to start his calibration.

I know someone that works for Best Buy Magnolia calibrations & told him about my experience. He tole me they only get the basics for ISF calibrations.

I was just trying to help you out not attack your calibration.
It's not the setup it's the master, like I said glory looks great GB doesn't

I watched the last 30 mins today again and wished I had a xvYCC compatible TV. Am I missing out much?

Good grief, is this thread still going?

"It's a big difference"!

"No, it isn't"!

Dear Lord, folks, WHO CARES?! Those who think it's much better are going to think it is, and those who don't think so aren't going to see a big difference no matter what. Just let it go. Anyone who's a big enough fan of the film to care about double-dipping this title for better image quality alone has ALREADY BOUGHT THE DISC. :rolls eyes:

I read an article on-line that says that specialist equipment is needed to shoot xvYCC, so films pre-dating that would be up-converts. I'm not sure if it's the case or not but Ghostbusters, Glory and Taxi Driver would all pre-date the process.

Can anyone expand on this?

Since they were shot on film, electronic color space representations aren't really applicable.
I believe film has a wider gamut than sRGB (modern emulsions anyway, not aware of such details regarding 70s/80s film stocks) so there should be some sort of benefit, if it's preserved through the mastering process.

The colours that xvYCC can represent have indeed already been captured, certainly on film, and high end digital cameras, that are not limited to Rec. 709 gamut.

So here's the excuses I have heard so far.

Screen shots doesn't do it justice
How do you know, you don't have the movie?
Is your tv calabrated?
Your tv is calabrated wrong

Is there any other excuse that the Sony backers can come up with?

We're asking you relevant questions, yet we are labeled as Sony backers?

Marginal except for contrast, which is definitely moderate.

I'm not a Sony backer. Sony is one of my least favorite companies.

1. Screen shots aren't the best way to view differences in transfers. I know because I import a lot of blu-rays. I wouldn't have imported some of those based on screen shots. Hint "twister" UK blu-ray is tons better PQ & AQ than the US version.

2. I think you got everyone confused when you said you'd buy it if it was $10 & then you turn right around & said you had it. I'm still confused by those back to back comments.

3. If your display is calibrated you can get more richness of color & the sharpness is correctly calibrated.

4. Best Buy did calibrate my Kuro & it was the worst calibration I had ever had. I talked with their service manager & they refunded my money. He said they only are trained in the basics in ISF calibration & don't have all the equipment available for ISF calibration. They didn't even have my color set to RGB. What idiots.

Thankfully I caught D-nice when he was on the west coast & he saved my Kuro. I thought Best Buy had destroyed the picture it was available to give.

I'll never go thru that again. I was just trying to help you out.

Like I said before I paid 10 each, that's why I bought them. After BB calabrated my TV it was like having a new TV they did a great job on mine.
