touche.. The tragedy was the 'acting' if that's what anyone can call it. Was the lady playing Anakin's mother on some sort of medication??
This movie seems like Lucas was really trying to connect to a new generation to get involved in the saga, the under 10 yr old's.

Guess it worked considering how popular both trilogies are with different generations.

The only thing that I'm disagreeing with here is that everyone's notions that the Star Wars movies are not George Lucas'. George Lucas will always have involvement with the Star Wars films. Just because Lucas sold his company to Disney does not mean that these films are not his. He's simply passing on the reigns of the Star Wars universe to other people who are more than capable of taking "Star Wars" and moving it inito a different direction.

While I haven't seen the details of his agreement with Disney, I seriously doubt that he's removed himself from the films. He simply won't be involved in the extensive day-to-day details as he was before and Disney realizes that without Lucas' involvement in the Star Wars films, that they'll lose some respect among the fans who have supported these films since the first one was released in 1977.

It would be the same if Paramount decided to do more Star Trek with Gene Roddenberry. It's just unheard of.

By the way, a sidebar of note, I noticed when looking throough the various apps and games on the Android market, that there is a crapload of apps and games that are so similar to Star Wars that it's not funny. There's one called "Alpha Squadron" where you are in an X-Wing type ship and you have to beat back an enemy that is flying what resembles "Tie Fighters" and Tie Bombers" over what looks to be Bespin/Cloud City. It's hilarious.

I doubt they would hand over $4 billion dollars only to be subject to his whims. I'm sure they'll keep him involved in some manner, but he has gave up any veto power when he accepted the huge offer.

According to the reports, Lucas is now a consultant, so yes, he's still involved. However, he does not own anything Star Wars. I'm sure there are detailed contract stipulations - probably nothing that will be disclosed to the public. I would have to believe Disney would work with Lucas in good faith.

Disney exec: "George, we need you to take a look at the screenplay so we know where to have a character yell out "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" because we know how much the fans love it."

starting with Wrath of Khan, Roddenberry had no real say in the movies. they would show him the films and he would give his opinion on it but really, he had no say in what they did. his title was mostly ceremonial. but with Star Wars, I think they will listen to Lucas more. I don't think he will have any major control over it but if he said "this part really doesn't work for me", I am guessing they will listen to him and see if they can do something. ultimately he doesn't own them anymore and they can do whatever they like but I think they will at least listen to what he has to say.

He's not involved, guys. "Consultant" is a polite way of Disney saying, "Here's a sum of money each year to tell the public how happy you are with the way we're handling the franchise you sold us."

It's just a publicity thing, you shouldn't read more into it than that. It's just for them to get a nice pull-quote from George every time they release a new Star Wars movie. He has no creative input on the franchise anymore.

And I couldn't be more thrilled.

I am hoping that Lucas isn't involved at all. Hell, don't even let him see it until opening night.

How do you this is the case though? Just an assumption.

I've worked in the entertainment industry long enough to know the standard euphemisms.

I'm glad I'm holding out for the originals....cause I'm not buying these hacked up/ CG versions. I said what I mean, and mean what I said, George/Disney is not getting a single dime, until we are presented the option to purchase the OTR on the current format.

I have bought the Complete Saga twice but returned it both times. Each time I got it home and was about to open it Anakin's speech about how he hate sand because it gets everywhere popped into my head.

I've held out as well. I bought the '04 set and was very unhappy with the Special Editions and how they're basically meant to replace the originals. Won't make that mistake again.

Yes, Roddenberry had little involvement after the fiasco of TMP, and the Trek movies got better. So, let's hope history repeats itself.

Uh, those are the stages of death ... they are exclusive. George Lucas' name will always be attached to these films and as for the new movies, he will always have some hand in the development. Lucas knows more about the Star Wars universe than anyone who has ever worked on the series and Disney is going to keep him involved in the new films.

Oh, and as for Lucas not owning Star Wars anymore, I highly doubt that. If anything, the sale of Lucasfilm probably includes some language that allows Lucas creative control over how the series goes ... there simply seems to be more speculation going on in this topic than anything else.

The fanboys can complain about Lucas being involved in these films all they want but without Lucas' involvement, these films would be dead in the water. I think the only reason Lucas sold off Lucasfilm was that he's grown tired of the movie business in Hollywood. Steven Spielberg has been expressing the same concerns and that they are turning their attentions to smaller projects, even toward the small screen.

Not only that but I think that Star Wars series was probably one of the reasons why Lucas went this route was to get the studio to finance that particular project. Disney does have the resources to produce that Star Wars series. Besides, it's going to be funny watching JJ Abrams on the new film because while he's so used to keeping everything secret, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm is going to allow that.

Even Kath Kennedy has even said that Lucasfilm will be evaluating how they handle information about the Star Wars film because they understand the concerns of Star Wars films to be kept up to date on production and behind the scenes information while JJ has always been one to keep information releases at "0". I remember how JJ went ape when he discovered that fans had been taking pictures and video of Star Trek and Into Darkness and how he took added precautions and blockaded the area of where he was filming those movies.
