This is the real problem with the change. Regardless of whether or not it kinda makes sense when it's explained, it doesn't make sense when it isn't. A sure sign it's a dumb decision.

Obi Wan died willingly, so did Yoda. Anakin appears in the form he took before he turned into a mass murderer.

Didn't he slaughter an entire village of Sand People before that form?

Yes, I understand that. The point is, that cannot possibly be conveyed in the brief, dialogue-free moment the ghost is on-screen. Lucas can say whatever he wants on his commentary, but unless it naturally makes sense in the context of the film or there is time to explain it, then it's a stupid thing to change because the audience is just going to go "What?" instead of accepting this simple bit of emotional closure.

Yeah, it's like a twist a stupid SW novel would make.

I never really thought of that before! The Vader from Empire and Jedi would never have taken orders from Tarkin. Lucas really never should've said he had it all mapped out the whole time. It's obvious even in the OT that he didn't. That being said, I love Star Wars and will watch the films regardless of its many flaws and plot holes.

I don't even believe when Lucas was making A New Hope that Vader was meant to be Luke's father. Why? Well, for one, Obi convincingly told Luke Vader killed his father (not buying into the "from a certain point of view" stated Jedi) and discussed a little about his father in general. And, Vader nearly took out Luke in the Death Star trench and most certainly would have if it weren't for Han in the Falcon swooping in.

Me too. I love the music especially, it's a terrific cue that starts off quite percussive to reflect the tribal nature of the Ewoks, and it builds to a much larger scale climax. The montage works wonderfully as a capper for the bigger universe of the prequel-led saga, but it sticks out like a sore thumb if you're a strict 4-6 kinda guy.

The deleted (and later edited) scene with Biggs in the rebel hangar pretty much confirms this.

I don't really like either end cue by Williams. Yub Nub belongs in a Saturday Morning Cartoon, and Victory Celebration sounds like easy listening Yanni.

It always reminded me of the Sesame Street theme.

Yes, it's possible that Red Leader was the right age to have met Anakin before he turned to the dark side, and that Vader kept his identity a secret from everyone but the emperor and the surviving Jedi. Or that the actor just ad-libbed that line, and Lucas excised it for that reason.

Still, seems a bit too messy to have been thought out entirely.

I agree, however, I'd take the yub-nub crap back if that was all they offered for the GOUT.

Ideally, the restored originals could come with a branching system where you could choose to watch the films as full-on OT, or OT with enhanced visuals. In both cases though, I think the Jedi ending would still default to the yub-nub stuff, as the extended celebration is extended run time (and that's what all us purists have b****ed about all these years: the unnecessary additions).

I don't expect to have my cake and to eat it as well though, so a full-on OT restoration by itself would work just fine for me. If Disney is smart, they'll package it with an entire saga set, forcing us to buy movies we don't want so we can get to the ones we do. I am also fine with having to take a bite out of a shit sandwich such as that, as long as we finally get a fully restored GOUT.

Branching will never work with the originals and SEs because the color timing is so different between the two. However, they could re-time it so both share the same color but then I would fear we wouldn't get the true color timing of the originals.

You're not wrong, the originals fly by compared to the SEs, especially Star Wars. People have long dreamed of a pick-your-own version of the OT, and while I don't think we'll ever see such a thing, I love the idea of 'standard' and 'enhanced' versions. Let's be honest, the latter is what we thought the SEs were always going to be: better visuals but no actual additions or changes to the story, dialogue etc.

Yeah, and it's not just color timing. There are a lot of American Graffiti sunsets (ie digital tweaks that don't necessarily jump out as changes) all over the place too.

Anakin was a great Jedi, so it's obvious people would remember him. I was under the impression no one knows Vader is Anakin outside of Ben and Yoda.

Yep. There are so many new digital zooms and/or camera moves in Star Wars it's not even funny.

I'm just glad they didn't decide to shake up Raiders too. It's fine as it is.
