sorry to threadjack but....
Power conditioners won't hurt anything, but do they offer major benefits over a good powerstrip (something like this but without power conditioning) for owners of LCD's, and receivers? I've been wondering if it would make any difference to pick one up. thanks Last edited by Slec; 04-12-2008 at 02:29 PM. |

Those are both reputable brands as is Furman.
There is another thread on forums about surge protection, line conditioners, and backups. Many ppl have recommended backups instead of protectors or conditioners because they protect against low voltage losses. |

I have a Belkin PURE AV conditioner found on buy.com for $45. It filters video and audio noise.
This is the thread I was referring to: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t=conditioners |

Excellent price for a great conditioner. It also has a high current outlet for your receiver/amp. Will it make a big improvement immediately? Most likely not. What a power conditioner will do is protect your equipment from the power that occur with bad wiring, appliances turning on and off, and general dirty power. These things wouldn't damage your equipment immediately, but after some years would leave their mark. The Belkin PF30L is also a great surge protector, rated at over 4000J. There are UPS/power conditioner combo units, but these are very expensive- especially if you need several outlets and want the UPS to have a significant amount of capacity. From my experience on AVS, a UPS might be a good idea for an RPTV or projector, but only if you suffer from very frequent black/brown outs so you have sufficient time to cool down the bulb. |

I've had my system connected to a monster 1600 since day one and would never plug any of my equipment directly into the wall. It's saved me twice already when there have been brown outs in the summer and the power dropped. The monster just shuts itself down while disconnecting the components electrically to prevent any damage. Then you just reset the power center and your good to go again.

I just got the Belkin pure av pf-31 yesterday. Quick question, in my theater room I have everything hooked up to it in my equipment closet. Everything but the projector power cord and my subwoofer power cord are plugged into it now. Since my projector and sub are on the other side of the room and their power cords won't reach the Belkin are there any suggestions or devices I could use that would allow me to make these reach???

![]() You are incompetent, Starscream! Hmm, perhaps using a separate conditioner for the equipment on the rear, if there is space and a plug available for one? Somehow I don't think using an extension cord would work, but I could be mistaken. |

Personally, I've always felt that power conditioners are more hype than help. A good surge protector is a definite must, but unless you have a problem with interference, etc. I don't really think power conditioners are necessary IMHO.
I'm sure you'll get a million different opinions on this one though... ![]() |

A UPS/conditioner is very useful if you have a display with a lamp. It is important to cool down the lamp and the surrounding electronics in case of power failure.

need to read this https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...er+conditioner
the problem is not all power conditioners are created equal, some will sacrifice themselves to save the equipment, others will save themselves and the equipment. also not all of the ups systems will protect against power sags ![]() |
