So the big question everyone has been wondering since the announcement of the next Halloween film was whether or not it would continue on in the universe set up by Rob Zombie. Recently Collider caught up with Malek Akkad at the Saturn Awards who shed some light on the subject.

“I can’t talk about it too much right now," says Akkad. "It will definitely keep elements and bring in new elements. But I really want to bring it back to kind of like, the classic – because the last one got a little dark – I want to bring it back to the classic Friday night horror film that people will really like.”

When asked about the ill fated Halloween 3D which was announced a couple of years back...

"Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier did a script. The next day after the last one came out, we were back in production for Halloween 3D. We were about two weeks from going down to Louisiana to shoot it and for whatever reason, the studio thought we were maybe moving a little bit too quickly. I disagree. I think we had a great script and a great team and it would have been a massive hit. But right now we’re currently working on a new script for Halloween 3, so it’s all in the works right now."

Check out the entire interview here!

I kinda hope they re-boot it and start clean. Let's just forget that Rob Zombie shit and pretend it never happened.

Rob Zombie was the best thing to happen to the franchise since John Carpenter. Give him the third one, with final cut priveleges.

Thank you! Glad to know I'm not the only one who appreciated those films. No need for a reboot, just keep going. How many sequels from the 80s slasher films were the best ever? Like none!

There really are very vocal, and very divided pro-Zombie and anti-Zombie factions. Whatever happens, half of the marketbase will be mad! Must suck to be deciding what to do on this thing.

For my money, both Zombieweens belong in the top 5 Halloween films, easily. Zombieween 2 is easily a top 20 horror film of the last, say, 20 years.

Instead of me saying "ew no!" I am actually curious as to what makes you think it was that good? What did it do right/wrong?

I'll go against you all and go in a different direction...would rather have Halloween III based on the first Halloween III....so sick of Michael Myers. So there said it.

I agree with his statement, my reasoning was that the movie felt truly evil to me, that's really the only way that I can describe it....... Evil.

[Show spoiler]the entire part where Michael imagines he is still a child and he thinks he is getting his family back together, while an imaginary version of his mother "runs shits" it just felt very evil!

Name me another mainstream horror film that was that batshit insane, that violent, and that auteuristic in that last 20 years. If that doesn't work for you, and I guess for a lot of people it didn't, then I can see why you'd hate it. But was thrilled with Zombie's no-holds-barred, sheer-insanity take on the story. Yes, Zombiemyers is nothing like the original, but that's almost a good thing. What would be the point of trying to remake Halloween 78 the same way? It would automatically be worse, so you may as well make a film that's just loosely based on it.

Also, "If I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you."

Agreed. I loved everything about Zombies HII. It felt so dirty and unsafe, like a cross between Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And it's also a mind f*** of a film that's not for everybody, which is the way it should be. It's definitely in my top 10 favorite horror films.

I enjoyed Zombie's H2. One of the more darker films in the last ten years.

If they want to ignore H2, I'm all for it, but bring back Scout Taylor Compton and Tyler Mane!

I disagree with the last sentence.

I'm not shocked that some liked the ZOMBIE versions. Even I thought the first was alright.
But to me, the white trash element was just too much. I didn't care one bit about who lived or who died. I actually became annoyed as every single character was just disgusting and vulgar. In a movie like that, you are supposed to root for someone ala Jamie Lee Curtis.

I am happy Zombie is done and I look forward to a better continuation of this franchise.

The idea that Zombie's Halloween movies are auteuristic is just ridiculous! Halloween was someone else's brainchild, not Zombies. All Zombie did was bastardize Michael Myers by projecting his own white trash bullshit onto him. That to me is a disgrace, and goes against everything that Michael/The Shape was meant to be.

What makes the original Halloween scary, and more laterally Michael Myers scary, is that he is an ordinary young boy, from a middle class, non-abusive family... has no reason to 'snap' but one Halloween he picks up a knife and never puts it down again.

The idea that this could be any child in any time period is terrifying. I mean, what parent wouldn't be afraid of this happening to them, that their child could just start killing for no reason?

Secondly, the adult Michael or 'The Shape' was just that... a shape... not a sloppy hulking brute on an angry rampage but a normal sized, unassuming man stalking his victims like a predator in the darkness, it could be anyone. He wouldn't stand out at all. The shape is intelligent, methodical and utterly devoid of emotion.

IMO that is MUCH, MUCH scarier than an easily identifiable 7ft-ish angry beast with mommy issues.

Hitchcock said it best, “There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.”

That quote sums up the original Halloween perfectly. There's a reason it's looked at as an indisputable classic. It's 10x the film zombie's version is (and I would love Halloween 2007 if it was an original slasher, it's just not a Halloween film IMO)

The best thing they could do is reboot it again in a few years, in a traditional sense. The Shape as he was in the original, a methodical psychopath terrorizing babysitters. No Strode, no Thorn, no 'excessive' gore and certainly no white trash elements. A back-to-basics, well written, tension filled slasher movie with strong Halloween atmosphere.

It's a no win for most people. You're asking for an exact carbon copy of the original. What's the point? We all know why the original is the best and why it is so effective. Where exactly would the anticipation of the bang come from, when you know all the beats and how it would play out?

People who liked the remake enjoyed the first hour more. When it devolves into that relative straight remake during the last 40 minutes or so, all people do is complain. So, Zombie gets more control for the sequel, he definitely makes it his own, but as usual, all people do is complain how it's not a Halloween movie. I would have been interested to see what he had in mind for a Part III with full control, but I'm sure he's glad to be done with it, because who needs to deal with the fickle feelings of franchise fans who will prop up a pile of trash like Resurrection which actually was disrespectful while trying to pull down these newer flicks.
