That's the route I see them taking the series. Each season will have a new killer and a new group of teens taking on Ghostface. Hoping the first season is in Woodsboro but not sure how more seasons would work. Woodsboro can't have a new Ghostface killer every single year.

Who should be the new final girl? Who should play her boyfriend? Her best friend? Opening kills?

Sounds like there may be some bad blood going on which is preventing this from getting made.

Quote:
It's a shame to discover the amount of bad blood that exists between the Scream franchise's creative minds. To hear Kevin Williamson tell it, it doesn't sound like he'll be back to the series anytime soon.

Bloody-Disgusting was recently pointed to Cinefilles by an avid reader. The big story coming out of there is that Scream writer Kevin Williamson still has plans for a Scream 5 and Scream 6, but that nobody seems all that interested in making them.

Of course, this has something to do with Scream 4's rather disappointing domestic box office, and also the fact that the franchise is currently being re-imagined as a television series for MTV (with Wes Craven's involvement). What's most surprising (and disappointing) about this news isn't that Williamson has zero involvement in the television series, but that Craven and co. (The Weinstein Company) seem to have written him off.

“It’s weird, when I pitched ‘Scream 4′, I pitched ‘Scream 4,’ ’5′ and ’6′,” Williamson explained to a few journalists, including Cinefilles, following a panel for his new TV show ‘Stalker’ at the 2014 Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Thursday. “I pitched a whole new trilogy. I guess Scream 4 never took off in a way they hoped, and so…”

While Williamson went on to confirm what any ‘Scream’ fan already knows–he’s “not involved” in the series development anymore, as Wes Craven and his team are “done with [him]“–he also noted that these original pitches could very well turn into something bigger in the future, if all goes well. “It’s all here [pointing to his head] and my computer … if they wanna buy it from me!” he said with a smirk.

It’s very possible the Craven crew might want to do just that if the ‘Scream’ TV series currently in development at MTV turns into a hit. Williamson is not involved in that in any capacity, not even as a consultant, but tells Cinefilles that he might tune in, as a viewer.

“I’m curious. I’ll watch it. I’ll give it a go,” he said from the TCA stage at the Beverly Hills Hilton. “’Teen Wolf’ turned out to be a fun romp–I enjoy the hell out of that–so maybe MTV’s on a roll and it will be a good, cool thriller.”

Williamson is smart enough to never say never where the prospect of lucrative franchises are concerned, but it certainly sounds like we won't be seeing Ghostface on the big screen again in the near future.

Seems its been that for a while. Mainly since KW didn't get things to go his way after the Weinsteins changed stuff about Scream 4 and previous other Screams.

Didn't Williamson get replaced by Ehren Kruger again for Scream 4? I heard that at least part of the shooting script was written by the latter. Either way, I'd rather not see a Scream 5 unless Williamson is at least somewhat involved. Scream 3 was easily the worst of the series and that's the one he sat out.

I agree that Scream 3 is the worst of the series, and, if Kruger did do some work on Scream 4, it would make sense considering I think 4 to be only slightly ahead of 3 but far below the first two.

If this does wind getting made, they might buy Williamson's script, but then probably do some work on it. He wouldn't have any say in it and that wouldn't be a good thing. And I know Craven is involved, but I'd so much rather see another film than a TV series. It's a shame that the series will have to succeed before there's a chance of another film, and even then, there's no guarantee.

I'm not too hopeful in the TV series being that good, so I'd rather have another couple scream films.

I'm actually fine if they don't make Scream 5. After watching 4 when it came out on Blu-ray, I didn't feel they really had any real place to go with the story. I thought 4 would have worked as a fitting ending to the series.

Yeah, there is only so much you can do with Sidney, Dewey and Gail.

True. The so-called reboot ended up being a red herring in that movie, so they could just leave it as is. And I thought it was a solid improvement over Scream 3, so I don't mind if that's where the series ends.

I definitely want there to be more Scream films. They are so much fun to guess who the killer/killers is/are. The only thing is I can't think of what motives there could be for the killers in 5 and 6 or how the new storyline could continue.

I remember that Scream 4 was going to be the start of a new trilogy but it didnt make enough at the box office so the rest of the series was scrapped. Does that still hold true or are they about to fire this series up again? I mean, what else could they do really?

I don't think it's scrapped. It's just o hold at the moment. Maybe if the show does really well they will. So who knows.

Good luck catching my interest without Williamson, Craven, and the original cast.

No thanks. 3 Scream films was quite enough.
