I kind of agree about not bothering with critics. Although I do skim the Oscar nominee list so I know which films to ignore in the future I still can't think of a single film that I did or didn't see based on critical reviews.

Music even more so. U2 haven't even announced their next album yet and Rolling Stone already gave it a 5 star review.

I disagree especially when it came to Roger Ebert. That man knew film and I would say off the top of my head that I agreed with him greater than 80% of the time when it came to film. Is it an opinion? Sure it is but I would take the opinions from some of the most respected of them any day over the ramblings of us posters on this board. Ebert forgot more about film then anyone on this board even knows about film....

I think if Sarah actually did some research and study on the man she might feel differently. I think......listen to some of his commentary tracks on Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Floating Weeds and Dark City. Believe me he was more than just a critic...not just anyone gets commentary tracks on such films.

Ebert was a damn fine writer, so it was worth reading his reviews whether you agreed with him or not. I didn't always agree with him, but I could often tell whether or not I would like a film based on what he said about it.

I think about the only review I read of his that I disagreed with on every level was Blue Velvet.

If it were not for his "Greatest Films" books written years and years ago there would have been several titles I may have never discovered.

Star Wars Episode II Soundtrack - Across the Stars (Love Theme from Attack of the Clones) - YouTube

The conclusion of the film, with the wedding and that song leading into the closing credits sequence is probably the single highlight of the prequel trilogy and elevates its film in my estimation. Goosebump territory.

I think I recognized it as sounding great, but paired with Portman and Christiansen, it somehow morphed to something out of high school musical 3!

+1 on both. That's $100 billion, or more than 35 times Avatar's worldwide unadjusted gross (and more than 30 times GWTW's estimated worldwide gross adjusted to 2011).

name 5 critics out of the 1000's that have written, directed, or produced an oscar winning movie or a movie that made minimum 100,000 million dollars at the box office. there's not many.

you know why? because they don't know anything about the subject they criticize. they're useless frauds.

i'd rather get input and views on a Star Wars board from fans over siskel and ebert any day.

critics suck garlic sausage
That's an awfully roundabout way of saying "if critics know so much better, I'd like to see them make a better film then".

It doesn't take a chef to tell the soup is salted, you know.

I don't even know what you're arguing, but I'm still calling you out on being a lousy debater - because I hate that particular kind of logical fallacy. Instead of improving the quality of artistry, it merely lowers the standard of public debate.

But what if someone likes really salty soup? Critics are just opinionated a$$holes. Every once and a while you get one like Siskel, Ebert, or Kael, but most of them know very little about filmmaking in general.

Can we please have some respect for the dead and stop using the names of Siskel and Ebert?

Is there a really pretentious movie review site like this one http://pitchfork.com/ for music out there to view?

It beats having to listen to armchair know it alls who have listened to a few commentaries and think they know more than emoyee critics. Many employed critics have fine to film school and studied films, as opposed to getting some other degree and then watching DVDs.

The Dark Knight has a 94 on Rotten Tomatoes and it made over a billion dollars. Clearly both critics and movie goers don't know anything about film.

The reason film schools are so useless at this point is because you can learn more from listening to actual filmmakers commentaries and documentaries on DVD's and Blu-ray's. I remember they claimed that the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD was a "film school on a disc" and believe me, they weren't lying. Critics have the most useless profession I can think of.

Discussing films with paying members of the public is different from making your living seeing films for free and then playing a determining factor in how someones art is perceived by the public and how it performs at the box office.

Every single filmmaker who ever lived is a critic. That's what directors do -- they're the "first audience", they have to have a critical eye to get what they want. As for the film school in a box thing with T2...until you actually make a movie, it's really more "film trivia in a box", because there is no substitute for actually setting up shots, working with a crew, directing actors, planning and budgeting the shooting schedule. Hours of anecdotes and demo reels from filmmakers are nice, and a lot of fun, but its not the same thing.

This is different because they're critiquing their own personal art, which is a big part of the creative process and has nothing to do with someone who doesn't even pay to see your films, but passes judgement that can skew other viewers opinions.

The ability to shoot and edit a film is something everyone can do on their smart phone. It's not the same way it was twenty years ago. You don't have to learn how to operate a Nagra or deal with the photo-chemical process of film or so many other things that have fallen by the wayside. Film school is a waste of time and money and you can learn practically everything you need to know before shooting a film from special features on DVD's and Blu-ray's.

In your experience, which film school is the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD most similar to?
