man, im surprised Jae, no one else around here mentioned the Harman white papers except you. great read, interestingly difficult to comprehend the first time around, but definitely a great read.
I have had those Harmon papers and other links in A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II) for about a year. I am glad people are finally reading them and appreciate the science behind subwoofer placement.

The subwoofer crawl is effective for placing one subwoofer in a room to get good bass sound for one listening position. If you can move the couch slightly and put a chair there and put the sub on top of the chair, it works best.

As I explained the subwoofer crawl in the Guide, using an SPL meter will give you better results. Also plotting a curve, SPL (dB) versus Frequency (Hz), is helpful.

I never did do the crawl, but with my area I don't have much of an option.

I love where mine are now and I can't imgine them sounding any better anywhere else then where they are now.

I figured this topic might be a better place to post this than to create a new thread, seeing as how this two-sub topic is still front page:

I have a chance to buy another Polk PSW10 for $50 used, would it be worth the effort to add this second sub to my setup? Hopefully someone here has two PSW10s

Thanks!

I don't have Polk, but a second identical sub for $50... I would go for it...

Believe me two is better then one.

I have 2 PSW 10's and it is worth it in the perspective to fill any voids within the room that may be lacking bass whenever people are in the room. A second sub (if placed correctly, which can take a lot of moving it around to find the right place, i.e. "sub crawl.") My 2 subs now get the job done, as no matter where I sit within the room, I feel the bass is being evenly distributed.

I would have to presume that 1 quality sub is better than a sub of quality and a poorer one.

need immediate feedback here before I place an order. I want to relocate one of my subs to another corner for experimentation. I already have a single male RCA, to dual female RCA splitter. Currently the splitter is plugged into the output of the receiver, and both subs are plugged into the female ends of the splitter. Now, I could either order a 25' RCA coax cable to extend the length of the secondary sub, or have the main sub plugged directly into the receiver, then on the opposite end plug the RCA into one of the female ends of the splitter, the male plugged into the sub, and then plug the secondary sub into the other female end of the splitter. Difference would be me either getting a 25' RCA coax, or a 12' coax. But what I'm wondering, will I be compromising any kind of signal by having the splitter at the main sub rather than the receiver? Another way to ask this is can one female end of the splitter be used as a signal input, and the other be used as an output, all the while having the male end also be an output?

The doctor is in the house.....!!!! LOL!

I'll chime in and would like to know this as well. I have moved my subs around so much, that I have 2 extra 25' RCA cables not being used, but resting where the subs used to be. I figure, if I change my mind again and want to go back to that same area, I'll already have a cable there waiting for me. However, if we could do what ice suggests, then this may change things for me as well. Good question ice!

Sound-wise, you probably won't be able to hear a lot of difference. However, I would recommend to get the 25' cable. It gives you more flexibility in placement, is cleaner and more manageable. You don't want unshielded Y adapters somewhere in the middle or corner of the room. The difference in price is minimal.

and actually, it's not even the price that bothers me at all, it's that if I ran the Y adapter into/out of my 12" sub, then I could do an even better install by running the RCA coax against the wall, in a straight line, and would be behind my chair, end table, couch, another end table, then behind another chair, and wouldn't be visable at all. If I go the 25' route, I'll be running this through two corners, two built in bookshelves, before hitting the second sub. I'm willing to experiment of course.

congrats on the new title mad scientist, as you probably have already answered your question, this is of course up to your experimentation. i should tho inform you that you will yield almost the same results.

but then again, you wouldnt be a mad scientist if we all loved plain ol vanilla now do we?

that's the fun in experimenting. I think I'll order both lengths of cables and see if there is a difference. After whatever I settle on, I'll then probably order one of the better shielded Y splitters.

Hey ice, here are 2 links to 2 very well shielded Y-splitters I got from Cablesimple. The first one is 1 male/2 female and the second is 2 male/1 female.
