The new score for the end of ROTJ is probably the only change I actually like; Yub Nub is absolutely horrific and I've got no idea how that even passed through into the final edit back in 1983.

Still, I'll live with it to get the whole theatrical package.

The Echo Chamber Effect is Strong with this insubstantial hearsay.

If it happens then cool but until there is some real concrete announcements from a first party source, it is all much ado about nothing.

Best regards,

Interesting, I didn't know that. I guess it's cool that they're using these comics, novels, etc. to fill in the gaps here and there.

It's a great scene, one of my favorite things about it is that you're completely aware of Vader's inner turmoil without seeing his face and without him saying a word. Then Lucas decided it needed to be "fixed" by adding a "No! Noooooo!"

Call me what you want, that change is the one reason I haven't picked up the Complete Saga box set, and remain unsure if I ever will.

That alteration was the last straw for me-- I was going to buy the set and decided I didn't want to after hearing that was in it. It's all good-- it led me to go back to go seek out fan-made preservations and I haven't had to watch the revised versions since. And I'm positive we'll be seeing restorations of them from Disney in the near future.

SOOOO excited and relieved that we may FINALLY be getting the theatrical cuts of this movie! I'll never have to close my eyes during the end of Return of the Jedi when Hayden's ghosts shows up

This better be happening. Disney CAN do this! I'll even settle for the 97 versions if I have to.

Like others, I'm betting those unaltered editions will finally arrive for the 40th and I am beyond excited for that to happen. The originals ARE my childhood, they are my preferred versions, and I love them like nobody's business.

That said, I'm also grateful they'll come out so that those people who get on the internet to spit venom and tell Lucas they hope his daughter gets cancer and that anybody who likes the changes he made must be drooling between keystrokes will finally shut the flip up. We can rest assured they had no idea what Star Wars was about anyway and seem to miss the idea that mythologies don't grow on trees.

But mostly I'm grateful that folks who've remained civil while refusing to purchase the versions they didn't want will finally get what they want and Star Wars fans can be Star Wars fans again.

Then again. I'm kinda scared about the loudest detractors as once they have nothing to complain about, street violence will be on the rise.

Binged the unaltered original trilogy today, first time I'd seen the unaltered versions all the way through in a while. Disney, for the love of all that is holy, please give us these! I don't know if I'll be able to go back to my blu rays after today. Han shooting first, no Jabba in the original, better edited ESB, no Jabba's musical, no sarlac head, no "No!", yub nub and no Hayden!

It hit me right in the emotions seeing these, brought back memories of me mowing lawns when I was younger saving up money to buy the "faces" VHS's from Blockbuster.

I could survive on the gout dvds if necessary but man I'd kill to see these originals on blu.

I'm kind of a picky fan as well. Something that really bothers me about the special edition ending of Return of the Jedi is the editing. The original spends more of a focus on Luke IMO. It's a longer, uninterrupted shot of him walking up to the party and hugging Leia and Han and it's also longer shots of Luke seeing/smiling at the ghost trio and smiling at Leia when she comes and invites him back to the party. Just adds emotional weight IMO.

This probably sounds crazy but I just really don't like these small little trims/edits they did in the special edition.

Screen Rant has what you could call a more informed "article" with some important info people do forgot.
  1. 20th Century Fox owns distribution rights for the entire prequel trilogy, Empire and Jedi until 2020.
  2. 20th Century Fox owns distribution rights to Star Wars forever and ever and ever.
Disney may be preparing to release the original, unaltered versions but cannot do so without a deal from 20th Century Fox. Notice how Landis doesn't give a date at all.

But 2017 is a ways away.

The people complaining will only be satisfied if Disney announces that the unaltered version is canon and the SE is not. If however, Disney insists that H.C. as the force ghost instead of S.S. is what actually happens, people will still be upset.

I did not forgot that. It's not so much a case of forgotting it as people not knowing what the **** they're talking about.

Lucasfilm owns Star Wars. Fox distribute it for them. LFL says "jump", Fox says "how high". This is nothing new, it's how it's been for several decades and nothing has changed in that respect. Whenever LFL want to release something, Fox do it for them because they're contractually obliged to do so. Fox cannot and will not release anything of their own accord, nor can they 'block' LFL BECAUSE THEY DO NOT OWN THE PROPERTIES THEMSELVES.

We're only three months away from 2016, and I reckon we'll see something around May 2017, so that makes a grand total of 18 months from now. Hardly a lifetime.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I can watch the original trilogies on laserdisk, and I have no complaints. Therefore any blu-ray release I will be happy with. Unfortunatly I will have to read through all the complaints once a release date is officially released. Because I know it's never good enough for alot of people on here. But I look forward to reading the threads with people who are as excited as I am.

The fact that grown men can take such joy in quoting a thirty-five year old space shoot-'em'-up is a sad and glorious thing
