The two (almost identical) statements released by Toshiba in response to the Netflix and Best Buy moves, really have a tone of resignation to them IMO. While I don't expect anything formal from them immediately, I really get the feeling from these statements, that the fight's all but gone from them. I really think this thing could be "officially" over a lot sooner than even the most optimistic among us believed possible.

as you can see.... HD DVD PRG = Toshiba . BDA is not Sony
they are in despair. see the statement where they said " at least they still offer HD DVD to give consumer a choice"

Now imagine you are Warner, Fox, Sony, Disney, or Lionsgate and this happened.

What on Earth would possess you to go HDDVD at this point? The guaranteed loss of billions in DVD revenue?

HDDVDites have long claimed this as the holy grail for HDDVD. I think it'd be hilarious because HDDVDers would love it yet it would literally be the death knell for HDDVD.

I wholeheartedly support Uni & Paramount doing this. The loss in revenue might make them learn something.

The HD DVD PG throughout history.....

"Sep. 12, 1958: We have long held the belief that the Ford Edsel is the best car for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 5,000 Edsels in consumer driveways, it's unfortunate to see Ford make the decision to stop Edsel production going forward."

We regret to see Neflix going Blu forward, but we would like the chance to sell a bit more than 1 million players until we get rid of all these stock piled boat anchors and a few more coasters.
At that point Paramount and Universal are free to go forward with their all Blu plans.

"The consumer has not chosen and we can clearly show that the attach rates for the Edsels are much better than the competition."

This press release sounds EXACTLY like the one the HD DVD PG released when Warner switched. It was an obvious cut-n-paste job, with just the names changed. My guess is that the PR spin doctors for HD DVD need all the time they can to get their resume's up on Monster and Career Builder before the ship sinks.

It's sad, I can honestly see them releasing the EXACT same press release and just putting their own name in place of Netflix. I wonder if anyone there would even catch it before it was sent out...

Everything that has been speculated has taken place so far.
so why are are there still huge fan boys for hd dud? why are they not able to see the big picture? I mean blu ray is the poop out of them.

HD DVD Promotional Group’s reaction to the announcement by Toshiba that they will abandon HD-DVD and start manufacturing Blu-Ray players (future date):

“We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it's unfortunate to see Toshiba make the decision to only manufacture Blu-Ray players going forward. While the Toshiba announcement says they will support Blu-Ray, at least they will be remembered as the company that was in total denial for an extended period of time and offered consumers a choice at retail.”

It is as delusional of a statement as I have ever seen. Regardless of how they market HDDVD it is all downhill and facts are there to be seen.

About the only thing Toshiba could do at this point is try to buy out Sony and remanufacture the PS3's to play HD DVD based media.

Seems pretty obvious that they laid off the spin department following CES. No need to throw good money after bad.
