EDIT: Albeit, I will not get any new releases on DVD, but for movies that we all know will take some time to be released, it is worth it. (How many times has the latter part of that sentence been brought up? Bazillions. Last edited by JJ; 07-07-2008 at 11:10 PM. |

The reason being Blu-Ray has near maxed out home media and the only way forward is holo after Blu-ray. I have not tossed all my favorite movies on DVD. Only those i can not replace on Blu-Ray just yet. Any other move bar those favorites i will rent as DVD s are just crap and only worth renting. By your logic you would should still be watching VHS. I want to enjoy all my movies at the best and only Blu-Ray can offer that. Last edited by RustyK94; 07-07-2008 at 11:09 PM. |

I just don't get it.... people attack those who say "why do you buy all these blu rays" with the retort of "I like having them at my disposal the minute I decide to watch it, or if a friend comes over" but when it comes to DVD... it's "oh hell with that, I'll just rent movies that haven't been released on DVD" seems like a double standard to me. |

![]() I was just saying it's not worth building a huge movie collection on DVD though that's my point |

Hi,
I considered my DVD collection large when I had about 600, but I'm down to about 400 and they are going fast. Anything I have on DVD is an instant buy on Blu Ray if it comes along. (If I liked it enough to want it on DVD... I certainly am willing to buy the Blu Ray.) I don't buy DVD's anymore and have a hard time giving some of mine away. -Brian |

I guess I wasn't picking up what you were laying down.....
yeah, if I have it on DVD, the decision to double-dip to blu is based on a lot of things, transfer, how much I liked the movie (I like them all, but some a LOT more than others) etc etc... Going forward, anything I don't have on DVD, even if it's an older title, and the transfer isn't "that" much better...... I buy it on Blu ray... the marginal increase in PQ/AQ is worth the extra five bucks....... so yeah.... I agree.... I'm not still building my DVD collection, that's for sure. |

I haven't bought a movie on DVD in more than a year. I have bought my share of TV shows, but no movies. I honestly don't see the point. My son is a little bothered sometimes cause I buy new releases on BD and the PS3 sits in my room. That just means he needs to go to Blockbuster to rent. Oh well.

You might end up waiting a long time, that's the problem. Sure the flood gates are starting to open, but the last time I checked there's only about 700 or so titles on BD. How many titles are available on DVD?

Refuse is too strong. However, ever since HD on cableTV, I've avoided getting any DVD except for special collectible versions. Ever since BD, I've avoided those and have bought perhaps 2 DVDs in the last 18 months. I used to buy about 100-200 DVDs a year before getting used to HD cable.
The reason is that I find the lack of detail on DVDs (and some BDs too) very distracting and prevents me from enjoying the movie. I no longer pay attention to DVD release schedules, but I do pay attention to BD release schedules. |

I'm in the same boat as Beta, the Lasagna Boat. My 1,200-ish DVD collection isn't growing at all; my last DVD was American Gangster, right before I bought in to blu ray. I have been replacing my DVDs once the BDs are released for the most part, and selling the DVDs at work for about $4 to $9 depending (none of my fellow coworkers, save one in IT, has any inkling about blu ray). Once in awhile I don't bother with upgrading to blu right away, unless I find a bargain. An example would be Talladega Nights, or The Machinist (dramas and comedies don't benefit from the upgrade as much as, say, sci-fi or horror would, IMO). I focus more on new releases.
