Indeed, the attacks on 'Avatar' are bewildering. The last half-hour is an absolute masterclass in science-fiction action filmmaking, Cameron schooling everyone else working today. No doubt the sequels will be barnstorming.

If it comes it will probably be timed to release when the sequel hits theaters, I expect.

Let me make a comment:

Avatar is a cheap Dances with Wolves remake with a PC agenda

What a crock. Yeah, let's never make another movie favoring native peoples because Dances with Wolves nailed that so hard and it's special FX were so great. And while we're at it, no more Mob movies 'cause ... well, The Godfather, right? Hell, it's all been done before - no new movies unless it doesn't even make you think of something else. I mean, you do think, right, for all of us? Experts ...

2018 and I am still waiting for a ultimate collector's edition with all three cuts in 3D. Am I a dreamer?

Yeah it’s frustrating. I think the longest cut is the best version and Sigourney Weavers character in particular becomes a lot more interesting in it but I also can’t bring myself to watch the film in 2D again since it got a 3D projector.

I watch the 3 hour cut (my preferred version of the film) on Blu Ray, and it looks amazing. I can only imagine what James Cameron, and 4k technology can create.

Honestly I think if The Shape of Water just won the Academy Award for Best Picture, then the Academy should consider awarding a retroactive Oscar statue to Avatar.

You can't tell me that the story in The Shape of Water was any smarter or less derivative than the one in Avatar.

They were both films that relied on great visuals to carry the show.

...but Avatar was more fun to watch imo.

Maybe it's because only the theatrical cut was released in 3D in theatres?

I have no idea what took me so long to watch this on my new setup I did last Christmas. That being said my receiver did an amazing job upmixing the DTS soundtrack and it looks absolutely stunning on my OLED. This almost 10 year old bluray disc looks every bit as gorgeous as my 4K movies and in some cases better. They truly did master the picture quality with this movie.

Avatar was the first movie that I watched when I got my C7 OLED. Can't imagine a 4K release being any better...just spectacular!

Nope, I saw the extended edition in 3D at the theater. I'm hoping as we get closer to the release of Avatar 2 we'll get an extended edition 3D release on blu ray. Preferably on 2 discs for maximum bitrate.

Sooo...4k release. Why hasn't it happened yet? The movie has one of the best Blu Rays out there, so just imagine what it would look like on 4k.

They're waiting for the anniversary next year or the sequel the following year.
