Default Leak or Screw-up? Amazon UK lists Paramount Blu-ray pre-orders!

I was browsing through the UK Blu-ray section, and I noticed a couple titles up for pre-order that caught me by surprise:

Anchorman [Blu-ray]
Quote:
RRP: £24.99
Price: £18.74 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details and conditions
You Save: £6.25 (25%)
Availability: This title will be released on March 10, 2008. Pre-order now! Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.
Coming to America [Blu-ray]

Trading Places [Blu-ray]

Now, to the best of my knowledge, neither "Trading Places" nor "Coming to America" were ever offered on Blu-ray (or HD DVD, for that matter) in the UK like they were in the US. I do know that "Anchorman" was an HD DVD exclusive here. Just to make sure, I double-checked, and these titles are Paramount releases in the UK as well, so this isn't like "Beowulf", which is a Warner release (and therefore includes region-free Blu-ray) in the UK.

So, that leaves us with a bit of a mystery: Is Paramount (or at least Paramount UK) planning to release Blu-ray again? Frankly, IMO the more likely explanation is that Amazon just mislabeled a couple pre-orders, but with all the rumors floating around, it's just too juicy to pass up. Regardless, I added "Anchorman" to my "Beowulf" pre-order to see what happens. Here's to hoping...

alot of times amazon uses a generic date to hold that spot open and sooner or later we do get to that date in time.
or
could be being released by another distributer in the UK, ,meaning someone else may have the international rights.

actually, this is different, in this case there is a release date for each one along with a preorder option. when they are place holders this does not happen, and it says sign up to be notified, etc.

so, 1 of 2 things

1. amazon screwed up and put blu instead of hd
2. amazon/paramount let slip paramount is going blu early

probly 1

If you search on the site, there already is HD DVD versions with cover art for all 3 movies. The blu-ray ones pop up on their own. Something is going on. I am telling you, amazon is letting this one slip out early.

No. amazon constantly puts up pre order items for items that do not yet exist. This may mean something, but in all likelyhood, it is just business as usual and nothing new has occurred.

Here is the link to Anchorman -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anchorman-Bl...0943111&sr=1-1

It says March 10th 2008....?

Hopefully the timeline will be shorter for Transformers since they were already making them when they bailed. They could just pull them out of storage and ship them to retailers. I can't wait!

here is my experience with amazon. I used to pre-order polar express on blu from amazon UK... it appeared that after the stated release date, I hadn't received it. (before that, amazon even took down the price and pre-order link just few days after my pre-order). It is listed as "this item is no longer available". I cancelled my order, then import from USA.

Few weeks later, I was browsing at local HMV and was shocked to find some copy of Polar Express on blu.....

Just to wrap up the thread, try these links now and see what you get.

Fear not, Paramount will be announcing Blu-ray support soon. They just won't be announcing it through Amazon.

PS: No, the Germans haven't updated their Amazon site yet but I'm sure they'll get round to it.

Yeah, it seems that amazon has "corrected" the links which now point to the DUD releases . Oh well, so it was a mistake after all.
But, have faith! In time, the high def version of the movies will be up and the upconverted down.
