the back of the cover doesn't say anything about special features, so it's a barebones release like the canadian dvd was a while ago. i was hoping it would at least have the making-of doc like the american dvd. guess not...

Finally have this on the way from the UK. I didn't even know about the Canadian release until I stumbled on this thread just now. No worries, though, because the UK release is still less expensive all things considered for us US folks than the Canadian disc. It is obscene that Amazon.ca has more expensive shipping than Amazon.co.uk To get from the UK to the US you have to cross the freaking Atlantic Ocean...

If you have a region free or region b player the UK disc is 5.93 GBP prior to VAT removal right now, so quite a deal even with the exchange rate!

My own personal conspiracy theory for the shipping costs was to prevent us Canucks shipping items that where often far cheaper from the US and to stop US customers from getting items that hadn't been put out in the States yet (like this).
I buy from Amazon UK al the time, but almost never form .com as the hipping makes almost any deal not worth it.

To get back on point I'm mulling over which edition to get- I'll probably just end up picking up the Can disc as i can get it for fairly cheap in a brick and mortar shop w/ cash and avoid having to use my credit card.
Shame there's no extras though - not that i was expecting any as the Canadian dvd form the same distro had 0 as well. At least the transfer looks solid (thanks for the review)

For you the price is about the same locally or shipped from Amazon.co.uk. I guess it comes down to whether you want extras or not. I assume you must have a region free player if you are considering Martyrs UK.

If you like horror there are several other really good releases you could pair this with to cut down on per item shipping cost ordering from Amazon UK. Some are either not released in region A or are much cheaper from the UK.

I am very intrigued to see this movie just to see what all the fuss is about I suppose for £6 its not much of a gamble plus I don’t own a lot of horror films so I’m looking to expand into this genre a bit more. on the back of that is there any other suggestions of good horror films worth checking out?

I certainly reccomend some of the 70s and 80s horror classics. Such as A Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween (1978), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I also highly reccomend REC, which rcently got a UK release. Silent Hill is also reccomended, with the French release being the superior and Director approved edition. If you like isolation horror I reccomend Frozen. I found it quite enjoyable. Watch it on a cold winter's night when you are all alone. I am not a fan of super exaggerated death scenes. If you aren't either, stay away from Hatchet despite the good reviews on this site.

My only word of caution with Martyrs is it is very very grim.
I'm a horror nerd, but there are a lot of different types of horror - some splatter filled, silly and fun , others, like Martyrs, can be grueling. Of course, that's why I love the genre.
