What are we looking at exactly? and by ugly artifacts in The Matrix UHD, what do you mean? That was a glorious presentation on 4K. Only beat by a very, very small handful of films. Quote:
And how has done Batman? So you've actually watched the 4k UHDs on your TV at home then? How were they? |

At the posterised artifact inside reflection on Bat's head? You really don't see it?

The removal of Vicki taking the lint out of her mouth was only on the widescreen side of the 1997 flipper DVD. I guess whoever authored it thought it must be a mistake and so it was removed. It is on the flip side open matte version and every other release as it should be. |

This is bad. Now I can see why Geoff was talking about Blade Runner being remixed on the 4K release. Perhaps it's good then for my purist soul that I'm not fully 4K yet. |

The color timing and teal infusion is disconcerting because while there have been many improvements here there are some downsides. It is likely the same person behind The Matrix master may have worked on these but then again MPI has been fond of teal insertion and teal highlight on many discs for all studios for several years. And while the darkness is better I don't know if it's exactly as it should be on any of the four.
I too saw a vintage gorgeous Returns print but I wouldn't say it had teal in it-more of a deep blue to white lit blue in certain scenes and sequences. However where it seems confined to highlights and background details in 89 (where it has no reason to be, marring an otherwise nice looking transfer) it seems to be all over Returns and is a step backwards. I take it these are all shots of the 4K remastered BDs and that the UHD will be slightly better. What's up with that by the way? We've had BDs of 4K restorations for years and only now can studios seemingly not be able to get stuff right on the 1080p versions. |

Nope. I've honestly not seen it. I have watched that movie on 4K more times than I can begin to count.

![]() Teal is blue, it's just a warmer blue that just happens to work really well with modern TV's. You can notch your picture settings in a certain direction *cough*cool color tone*cough* to get the "blue" blue's you'd personally like for this. Or you can adjust your white balance a tad to compensate(if you're brave enough haha). I find myself always slightly adjusting settings specifically for UHD's depending on the film and the way I think it should look. It only takes a few seconds before sitting down to enjoy it in full! Fact is, the previous transfers of these movies are epic garbo any way you look at it. I've lived with them for a long time. Not happily, but they've served their purpose as a way to watch these movies for years. This is SO MUCH closer to the actual 35mm print then we've ever had, and it looks pretty damn good. and finally the quality I've been wanting (especially with Forever and B&R). But it will all depend on how it looks in person too, and your preferred settings. I'm sure this would look best via projector, just like the theater showings this month, which no one seemed to complain about a overbearing teal infusion then haha. Viewing these in HDR, I'm sure will change perception too. Screencaps of 4K stuff have always been problematic, at least for me. Stuff usually looks 5x better on my set, with the color, clarity and HDR implementation. Even standard blu rays upscaled. It's as authentic of an experience as we've ever had, and will have for a very long time. Until 8K or whatever else is next, becomes the norm. Returns is not perfect, no way, I'm not saying that but every time I look at these caps, I'm actually liking them more and more, and certain scenes MORE than the 35mm ![]() ![]() ![]() |
