None of are "trying to make 4K fail". Speaking for myself, I just don't care about it. Also, there's lots of stuff on DVD that I can only watch on that format. Why would it be the enemy? It's still a physical format, at least. |

Bottom line is 2D, 3D, and UHD BD help keep physical media going and that's all what matters.

In the end most consumers don't care about quality after it meets a certain acceptable standard. From then on they only care about price and convenience. I get that, I get the reality of it. That's why I said I hope there's more releases like this that force people to support UHD, because I want it to succeed despite that. |

I've already upgraded my set to 4k, but I still think that the uhd releases are half baked so far, specially catalog releases. I bet in a couple of years we'll have to buy all of these movies yet again, when the studios *finally* get it right
if anything, a 4k tv and player made me love 1080p blu rays even more |

Same experience here. I upgraded all my equipment. UHD didn't do enough of anything for me and I was questioning which version I preferred at times, which is a debate I shouldn't have to have with myself. I think one day in the future dolby vision could make UHD worthwhile. |

So to get the new remastered regular Blu-ray version I have to buy this 4K set? Fine by me since I plan on upgrading eventually (already purchased a 4K player) but I still think it's a grimy move on WB's part to only make the regular BD available this way.

I've never considered this movie to be explicitly pro-gun. I always viewed it as an affirmation of America's glorious frontier heritage on minding your own business.

Blu-ray Archduke

Like many other Clint Eastwood films, this one deconstructs the mythology of the masculine male hero/gunfighter/etc. Unforgiven takes place during the final era of the Wild West, when the legendary frontier has become fully self-aware. Pulp paperbacks, such as The Duke of Death, are embellishing and romanticizing the myth of the cowboy gunfighter. Young wannabe gunfighters are giving themselves actual brand names ("The Scofield Kid"). Meanwhile, the real legends have fallen off of the face of the Earth and people are already starting to question the actual deeds of these legends. Lawmen, wary of the romanticism of these legends, try to enforce order in abrasive ways. Enter Eastwood's William Munny, who reluctantly reemerges onto the scene with violent results. It's a fascinating film, because it has more in common with classic westerns (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, etc.) than it does with most "Eastwood westerns." It also manages to be a quintessential Eastwood western through and through, though. |

1) There are only three or four hundred films that were shot in 65mm that could take advantage of this. 2) The aforementioned 65mm films would have to have received 8K DIs or at least 4K. Most of them haven't even been given recent 2K scans. Last edited by HD Goofnut; 05-15-2017 at 06:19 PM. |

I just rewatched the previous blu ray, the PQ is very good, but there's room for improvement, I want to see a comparison between the old and remastered blu rays
