Default I have a Sony BDP-350 now, would a ps3 be a downgrade?

Hey guys,

As the title suggest, I have a Sony BDP-350 now. It runs to an Onkyo 606.

My question is, would a PS3 be a downgrade at all for Blu-Ray watching quality, either in audio or visual?

I know the BDP-350 bitstreams to my receiver, but I've been looking all morning on info for the PS3, but everything seems outdated at this point.

I knew that if anyone knew the up-to-date information, it would be you guys on this forum.

Thanks!

Wes

I'm moreso worried about the decoding of audio tracks on Blu Rays.

Can the PS3 decode all the major audio formats now, or can it stream it?

The PS3 can handle all audio codecs, it just won't show up on your receiver as TrueHD or Master Audio.

I've got the Sony 550 player and to be honest the video/audio seems no different to the PS3 I've been using to watch Blu for the last 2 years.

The only things I've noticed that differ between the 2 is that the PS3 loads up a disc much faster than the 550. However the 550 makes no noise when it's playing whereas the PS3 has the fan running (well it did before it died, no it's very quiet!). This makes a big difference to me (especially as I'm now connected to an Onkyo 607 which also makes no noise), as when it's a silent part the room I'm in is actually silent. With the PS3 and my older receiver combo (both having audible fans) there was always noise.

Thanks so much for your input!

I'm thinking the ps3 is being an impulse buy at best on my part, and you're input is very nice and appreciated.
