OK I used to have 2 subs connected a few years back in my HT and they sounded beautifully but a friend hooked them up for me and I have no more contact with that person. So anyways I have a super cube reference and I really liked the low end on it so I bought another one and will pick it up this Tues or wed. So I did some experimenting and put a y adapter directly out of the back of my denons sub out to my SCREF and my older Yamaha sub with 2 separate sub cables and Y adapters to the subs also it sounded really good bass was alot smoother and filled the room better and I got both loud and deep bass loud from the Yamaha and deep from the SCREF but it was slightly less stronger I guess because the signal is now split, strength is not an issue I can turn the subs up or the change it easily in the GUI. But is that safe for my denon????? And I also connected the sub cable directly to my denon with out the y adapter but the y adapter on the subs low level RCA inputs and another cable out of its low level RCA outs to my Yamaha sub kind of like a daisy chain but the Yamaha's response wasn't as good as the 1st setup. Any help would be much appreciated. I am not an audiophile so please keep it simple guys. Thanks.

What are your settings on the Super Cube itself as far as the volume, gain, phase and crossover? What is the LPF of LFE (sub crossover) in your Denon set at and what is your speaker settings (small or large?) Sorry for all the questions, but it really can be numerous things causing you to hear lesser bass response from your Super Cube other than what the Y-splitter may or may not be doing. |

I moved them around slightly about a foot just so they would fit better temporarily in the corner while I experimented with the sound but the difference was very slight and thats not where the 2 subs will sit when they are Finlay positioned.

Well, it is safe for your Denon to use a Y-splitter to power 2 subs. All you are doing is splitting the LFE signal. I am prone to thinking that the Y-splitter really has little effect on what you hear. It seems it might be your settings?

OK thanks! everything is still under warranty for a few years including amps on my subs and towers. My bass was probably slightly different because they where moved about a foot away from the corner my REF usually sits . I just wasn't sure if that was okay for the denon. but that setup sounded the best.

The most important factor in getting good bass response from a subwoofer is placement. With two subwoofers, this becomes even more important. In general, it is best to use identical subwoofers. They are much easier to place and adjust. The best location for two identical subwoofers is the middle of side walls. With different subwoofers, you need to be patient as it requires a little more time to adjust and place.
Regardless of what type of multiple subwoofers you use, you need to calibrate each one separately so that one does not overpower the other one. Even if they are identical, one can have a higher output because of its location in the room. After you adjust the level of each one separately, you must run the calibration program inside the receiver again. Read A Guide to Bass Management. The setup of two subwoofers is explained at the end of post #1. In post #2, there are links to basic and high quality Y adapters. |

Hi guy
I have an easy fix for you.I assume you are using powered sub`s. Add a preamp.Run your dennon pre-out splitter in to L&R in on the preamp then use the out L&R.You will be able to balance the sound with the control`s.Also you will get a big power boost. And some preamps have dual out so you can add 2 more sub`s. GO GET-M GUY. thomas426@netzero.com ![]() |
