Default Why can't you repeat Title on blu rays?

OK me and my fiancee are one of those that need tv on while we sleep - I have started to notice majority of blu's do not allow you to repeat the title so it just repeats the entire movie over and over again. Why is that?

The PS3 and other players offer a Title Repeat selection, but most movies prohibit repeating. I work at Best Buy, so I have to turn movies on over and over again a LOT. The Sony Players will not repeat at all. Samsung players repeat, but will only repeat chapters, not titles most of the time. The Panasonic players will always let you repeat ANYTHING, so will the Denon players. The Yamaha blu-ray players (which are made by Panasonic) also are repeatable.

I wonder if that applies to both HDMV and Java controlled movies...? I'd be willing to bet that the Java controlled ones (most of the major studio movies) cause this problem. The Java code is watching for a certain time to pass or an 'at end' event to occur, when it does it immediately executes it's code to re-load the menu. This code is always running, watching the video that's currently playing.

In HDMV mode (similar to DVDs in a way) no code is running until after the Title plays to the end, and then the play executes whatever commands are placed there. If you have repeat mode turned on, the player would just ignore those commands and re-start the title.

Not something I've ever tried to do, but knowing how the Java code works, I can see why the player would not execute a repeat sometimes (obviously the player could still be programmed to ignore the commands and start the title over). Also, in Java mode, when you load the Java code, that's a 'Title'. From within that title you then load up PlayLists to play different pieces of video (these PlayLists, like the feature itself, my not even be in a Title of their own). So the Java code _IS_ the title, if you tell it to start the current title over again, it will just re-load the menus... That could be doing it to...

What we need is a 'PlayList repeat' function...

Hi, I am a noob to this site, but this is the only topic I could find ANYWHERE that addressed this issue. I understand the "why" it doesn't repeat now thanks to the above poster, but that doesn't really answer why a player that was not made to repeat a blu ray still has the option to on the controller?

I suppose it is for when watching a regular dvd, which works 100% of the time for me. I have an LG model that has the auto repeat on the remote and when I attempt to auto repeat ANY blu ray I get that big red circle with the line through it. I don't even get the option to repeat a chapter. As soon as I plop in a dvd though I get all options. This is very frustrating for me cause I like to have my movies running in the background while I work and having them repeat helps (and yes I know it is ridiculous to complain about "not" watching a hi-def movie while I work but that is all I buy now).

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but this was the only info I found on Blu Ray players not repeating some Blu Ray movies.

Is the above information correct? Do I have to get a Panasonic or Denon Blu Ray player in order to reliably repeat any Blu Ray movie?

I was pretty bummed when I found out that my LG Blu Ray player only repeated some of the Blu Ray films I own.

Thanks a million in advance.

the menu-less Alliance titles and some menu-less WB titles replay once the movie ends.

This is on a Sony player, so I don't think the player is an issue with these particular discs.

I just put in "The Mummy" (1999) Blu Ray disc and it won't let me repeat it despite it not having a menu.

Edit: Nevermind.

I was talking about menu-less discs (without menus), the only studios I know of that employed this type of disc authoring are Alliance (in Canada) and WB.

The Mummy is Universal...

Try again?

I just replaced my Sanyo BR player with a Samsung. Neither would repeat full titles on Blu-rays, but would on DVDs. But another perplexing event happens with my Samsung. Like the OP I sleep with my TV on and have found that many commentaries help me sleep better. But with my Samsung, it will repeat the title but switches back to the original film audio after the first playing. My Sanyo and the portable DVD player I use when I travel for work repeat with the commentary track.

Is this something unique to Samsung?

My biggest beef was that the BDA embraced Java just because HD DVD embraced HDI, which they knew was more efficient. Due to Java you still can't STOP and RESUME a BD.

But haven't they got around the issue with java or are all discs that have a resume function not using java? Seems like most new bd's now days will pop up with a "resume or restart" option after the disc loads.

Yeah, some will, but not very many. AFAIK only Fox and Disney have the resume feature after you take the disc out and reinsert it or turn the player off and back on with the disc in the drive. Of course Universal has that screen saver that has resume, but you have to use the PAUSE button. I actually have not used the STOP button hardly at all since I adopted BD in 2008 because I don't feel like dealing with those blasted bookmarks. I simply use the PAUSE button.

I mostly use the pause button as well. Those Universal discs are pretty annoying. I think most WB bd's have a resume function. Not sure if it works after you remove the disc though.
