Default Ranking the Best Pictures of 2009

Simple rules: Take the Best Picture nominees that you've seen (for this year only, not of all time), and rank them. If you haven't seen all 10, just rank the ones you've seen.

As a reminder, these are the 10 (in alphabetical order):

An Education
Avatar
The Blind Side
District 9
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
A Serious Man
Up
Up in the Air

My rankings:

1. Up in the Air
2. Inglourious Basterds
3. Avatar
4. District 9
5. The Hurt Locker
6. Precious
7. Up
8. An Education
9. A Serious Man
10. The Blind Side

Comments:

-If I saw these all a second time (I've seen Up three times, everything else once), the ordering might change a bit (The Hurt Locker might drop, A Serious Man might go up)

-The Blind Side wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be

-Up is only as high as it is because of the "married life" montage; without that, it'd probably be under A Serious Man

Yeah, I've made it a habit the last 4-5 years to see them all before the Oscars. Bumping it up to 10 makes doing that a bit harder, but I couldn't let my streak die.

I don't think Avatar should take the Oscar, but I will say I haven't been as entertained at the movies as I had been when I saw Avatar in a very long time, maybe even ever, and that's what I see most movies for, entertainment.

Avatar is more than just a popcorn flick. Transformers 2 (which I like) is a popcorn flick! Avatar is actually a very good movie. I know the great visuals and things of that nature would make it seem like a popcorn flick buts it much more than that. I do agree about watching movies for entertainment also. Got Em!!
