Of a movie, encoded to the lowest common denominator the HD-DVD 30gb specifications.

exactly! if you consider troy has a runtime of 196min and max. space 30GB.
HOW can it be possible to make a videocodec with average high bitrates like Pirates or Casino Royale ect. ?

i cant imagine how this could work, maybe someone here will explain this to me!

holy shit...no reason to go ape shit dude.....I was just pointing out that it was a blu-ray disc as the poster made no mention of it being on a blu-ray disc. He made it sound from the title of his post it was a hd dvd.

I never said that it was blu-ray specs having this problem as you are trying to make it seem like...

what WB needs to do instead of putting the same thing on both hd dvd and blu-ray is make two different versions...I think that would help them see which one is better

AGAIN, since Troy have the SAME videocodec on HD DVD and Blu-ray its irrelevant if its a Blu-ray or an HD DVD player.

Thing is, its all about the DISC not the player! And fact is, the disc has optimized specs. for HD DVD.

what is it we are supposed to be seeing? The shots look blown out and whoever took the pictures didn't have a steady enough hand. Is that supposed to be macroblocking in the background of the first shot? I have no idea what the problem is supposed to be with the second, because of the unsteady hand.

I do believe that the point being made against the "Blu-ray player" post is that in either case the type of format doesn't matter when it comes to the image posted on the screen. When a WB title is released on both formats it is still only going to be as BAD as the HD-DVD. So, pointing out that the image was taken from a Blu-ray source is absolutely, undeniably, unrefutably, pointless. The purpose was to show how the real potential quality of some Hi-Def media is being affected by HD-DVD limitations, REGARDLESS of the source being viewed.

However, as others mentioned in the AVS thread, this is one sample, from equipment. Best to see if it occurs on other sets first before jumping the gun.

Oh c'mon you cant add microlocking into troys picture by shaking your camera, the whole picture include the tv must have microblocking then!

But ok what about the low bitrates? its NOT a dark scene, its a day scene with moving pictures, also fault of not having a steady hand? 7Mbps is a way TOO low for a next gen codec, its DVD niveau!

I have noticed the same S*** on departed as well, all the low bitrates scenes looked crap and totaly soft, i can give you the exactly timing if you want to check.

so you listen to users from avs? well they must be right, its equipments fault and 7mbps is enough so are 30gb, cause AVS say so

Blame HD-DVD for giving you the lower bitrates since this movie was optimized for the weaker HD-DVD format; lower bandwidth and smaller disc capacity. If it was optimized for Blu-Ray this would not have the macroblocking. WB really has to do seperate encodes to show off the better looking transfer that would always be Blu-Ray.
