Default How would you rate the PS3's online community?

I am a PS3 owner, and will be getting into the online scene as soon as I move into a place w/ high speed net which will be in a month or two. I don't really care much if the interface is worse than live or anything. I just want to know how easy it is to get in matches, and find people to play with. I know some games in the past on 360, even though they were online, took forever to get a game going. For those who have played, how easy/quick is it to get in a match on Cod4 or unreal or resistance?

Thanks,

Resistance matches are quick and easy to join.

CoD4 servers can be slow sometimes, but I don't know what causes it.

Unreal Tournament III servers thus far have been lightning fast.

I've tried to connect on Guitar Hero III a couple of times, but it's never worked. The Playstation Store is kinda cool though.

I would rate the online based on individual games.
As long as you have a type 2 NAT you shouldn't have any trouble.

Resistance is the best I have played. Don't like the mic set-up having to hold down a button to talk. You can have all your friends join a "party" then its open mic with them but no one else.

Warhawk is up there too. Again the mic is annoying.

RB6:Vegas is good but I have run into some punks in team sharp shooter matches they like to coordinate a simultanious quit when they are losing. So the match ends. This has only happened a couple of times so I no longer join those types of matches I host instead or join a freinds match.
The mics are open in team during match and open to all in lobby as it should be.
CoD4 I didn't have any trouble but I only rented it the week it came out.
The mics work like RB6. So that is a +.

UT3 I just got but haven't played online yet. Still just getting a feel for the game.

Gotta agree with you on Resistance and CoD4, havent played UTIII.

CoD does need an update or something. The servers are horrible sometimes, can take up to 5 minutes to find a game. I dont like that you just cant join friends during matches, you have to wait to get invited and even then you're lucky if you can connect to the host. Half the time i get tired of waiting for friends invites i just start playing on my own. Other than that im hooked on CoD4, try to play every free minute i have.

I've played some of the sports games and Warhawk online and both were quick and easy. I saw a friend playing UT3 last night (in the "friends" section of UT3) but I didn't try to join so I'm unsure on that.

Online play is always easy for me. Always lots of people playing at any time of day, I don't have problems with slow connection even though my internet connection isn't as fast as most.

No complaints here!

KEEP IN MIND THAT XBOX LIVE'S HAD 5+YRS to perfect it's experiance and i'm
hopeing sony delayed home to get it up to or better than live standards.

Back on ps-2 sony unwisely supported cruel and unusial punishment / dial up
and hi-speed while xbox was hi-speed or go home. This put sony behind on
online and while psp has some great efforts in the syphon filter games their
home system still hasn't caught up. Ps-3's home needs to meet or exceed
live in every way so i'm really hopeing it arrives fully realized next easter...or sometime therein.

I have resistance, lsw, warhawk and cod4. The online has been great even being used to live. I wish resistance wasn't so greay as it's harder than most other games to tell griend from foe.

Bring on home!!

what community?

no seriously I have not used any of the "community" aspects of the PS3 cause I have to use sepecific games.
I am waiting for HOME to come out cause that is more like an online community than anything else!
I also hope games like WoW and City of Heros come to the PS3, where the world is full of other players and you can friend them on your PS3 and chat with them in HOME and on video chats as well.... that will be a great online community.

right now i give it a 1.5 of 10... until HOME is out. Then I suspect it will get around 8 of 10.

I'm just glad the big multiplayer games on PS3 have dedicated servers.

Gotta dissagree it's simply the people you play together with, COD4 and your friends play together = community. Warhawk clans community. When SOCOM Confrontation there will be a huge community (great server set up as last ones) The online is solid, not a lot of lag. It's all in perspective really, but I'd give it a higher score than that bc the poeple are a lot better to play with versus the community on Xbox LIVE who are a bunch of asses all day long.

To me ps3 online is like pc online. All based on the game you play.
So far Ive found games easy, warhawk being the easiest.
CoD4 first time I loaded up to go online, the interface confused me, I didn't know what I was doing lol pressing buttons.

Well I tried out UT3 online last night and I agree with Icemage, lightning fast.
I had my ass handed to me for the first couple of minutes, mostly cause I was running around checking out the map. It was fast paced & frantic. Overall pretty cool. I only tried "deathmatch".

GH3 is frustrating but I manage to get into some challenges. COD4 sometimes takes a bit of time to join a match but once you are in a group you are good to go!

XBox was a great model to follow from the beginning. Building a console with online play in mind was the wise thing to do. I was an Xbox Live beta tester near the end of the beta test.

However, the high-speed or go home thing didn't stop dial-uppers from connecting. Plugging an ethernet cord doesn't equal no dial-up. People found ways around that.

Fortunately, dial-up is getting to be less and less common all the time. In fact, I rarely hear the "sorry, I have dial up" excuse from people these days.

I rate RFOM as still the best online game i've played for the simple reason that the servers are well maintained which means i haven't run into any lag at all or it was so rare that i can hardly remember it & coupled with the fact that this launch game also has the best lobby system to date on any PS3 online title i've seen, i don't have UT3 so i can't compare them two yet, COD4 could have taken a leaf out of RFOM's lobby system & created a truly enjoyable online experience, the game play is there & thoroughly enjoyable but the lobby system needs an overhaul

RB6 has to be the worst shooter i played online, there was terrible lag when spectating people, lobby set up was not good & i hit into lag quite a bit even on a stable connection of around 2mbs

UT3 from what i hear though has a similar lobby set up to RFOM & the different style UT3 has should definitely be a winner

RFOM is my no1 overall online title on the PS3 merely for it's awesome lobby system, lag free servers & good gameplay if offered

COD4 is no2, servers don't have lots of lag & are well maintained but the lobby system lets down greatly this game a bit, as a lobby system like RFOM would have been excellent

UT3, well, i'm ordering from amazon.com or somehwere that ships to the UK cause were not expecting this game in the UK until 2008 & i hope the servers are really good when lots of people are on like RFOM, also hoping the lobby system is similar which it seems to be from what i have read. It looks like this is the next best online title after COD4 seems to have become overly familiar & repetitive like RFOM did for me although coming back to these games after a while is always an enjoyable experience
