Default October 2006: LOST series coming soon? (Answer... yes!)

Great news! A little pricey though.

http://www.thetailsection.com/lost_n..._to_bluray.php

Quote:
According to sources close to marketing at ABC, the network is very close to announcing the release of LOST Season One in Blu-Ray format. The set will be the flagship of a line of HDTV enhanced boxed sets the network plans to release in the coming summer. The LOST set will feature extras and extended scenes not included on the highly successful DVD release.

The set, which is rumored to be priced at a whopping $199.99, may not be the norm for future ABC releases citing a daunting price as a possible stumbling block for consumers. The network has plans to release other shows in two episode disks for around $20. If you’re doing your math, that would mean collectors would pay an addition $280 to spread out the pain.

By selecting the Blu-Ray format for this release, in the process shunning HD-DVD owners, Disney may be bearing a heavy influence on technophiles who have yet to decide on which machine to stick in their entertainment console. All I can say is I'm happy I got my pre-buy in on that PS3!

mmmmm..Lost on blu-Ray...mmmmmmmm.....dribble.....

That's the thing though, someone has to take a leap of faith and release something really huge on blu-ray to get the general public interested. Right now it's just us AV maniacs! Lost would get a lot of interest. Especially with season 3 on screen.

No doubt - Lost has become quite a phenomenon and will intrigue many people.
Is ABC owned by Disney?

Yes, ABC is owned by Disney. No doubt Lost could be a boost for BD. But then again, HD DVD could counter with Battlestar Galactica, leaving BD no choice but to release 24.

Man, I should be the one running things in this format war!

With all this talk of TV on HD optical disc, somebody should woo Paramount to go BD exclusive or at least make sure they don't go HD exclusive so we can get the CSI series and The Unit.

I haven't seen Lost but want to see it. But not at that price. The Star Trek box sets were overpriced and I went for those, but these are FAR over the limit.

I'm in the same boat. Everyone tells me Lost is awesome, but I was holding out for its release on HD optical disc. TV on disc has to be a show that I really enjoy in order for me to buy it. Normally if I've seen it once I won't watch it again. I would NOT pay $200 for a one season box set. Let's hope that this is just rumor and the actual MSRP will come in closer to $100, so we can see retail prices at about $70.

If it's coming from Fox (24) hopefully it will have DTS-HD MA as well.

24 is my fave show of all time.

Since Fox and ABC are 720p over the air it would be nice to get their TV shows in 1080p.

Fox especially since even with 720p they have hardly any bitrate and a lot of artifacting.

I am sure these things will come with time... Lost would be cool though in the near term

Me too. But the question is, will they redo the SFX, or at least fix that screwed field uprezing on them proper?

$200? Even if that is a rumor, I say screw that. No show is worth that price.

Gads - I didn't notice that before. $200 is in the retarded range.

It would have to be S1 and S2 for that - maybe even S3 so far as well !

You know, I wonder...

Like just about everybody else and their cousin, I like LOST. Intriguing show - provided that it'll eventually get somewhere. I read this article at Zap2It just yesterday, and while it pissed me off to learn of a 3 month hiatus for the current season (*HULK SMASH!!* <== that would be me as of yesterday), I find this synchronism in announcements interesting, nonetheless. Someone pointed out to me that the previous two seasons have been released on DVD just prior to the start of the next season on television. Maybe Buena Vista is pulling a similar stunt with the latter half of season 3 in early 2007? To drum up promotion for the new Blu-ray release? It's hard to see lots of advertising dollars going into a Blu-ray exclusive release, but it's still a possibility! ^_^

$199 is way out of line with reality. HBO Video charges the most for their SD DVD sets, and they are only charging a $30 premium for The Sopranos on HD DVD. If Lost retails for $59.99 or $69.99, then the BD price should be $89.99 or $99.99.

IMO... Very soon, there should be no premium charged for these discs, if they expect the masses to adopt HD optical discs. I understand they have to recoup their development costs and R&D and such, but they should be working hard to get disc prices low as possible.

But charging $200 for a one season box set it ridiculous. Prices like these are going to push the masses even further away from HD optical discs.

$200 is crazy. I'm hoping this just a bad rumor. They probably wouldn't sell one set.

US$10-30 premium over DVD is warranted, I think. Anything above that is format suicide. If the studios are gungho at getting more TV on BD, they'd charge only US$10 extra over DVD at the most; that will show a tremendous support. But seeing that BD50 production lines is not available everywhere, this will have to wait.

I'm really getting so sick and tired of all the commercials...the idea of getting a great show like this in glorious HD without any interruptions...I'm probably crazy enough and angry enough at this point I almost would pay $200 a season to get it done.

I suspect we'll be able to pull it off better than that before all is said and done.

But this is huge news for BD if TV shows already start coming to it anytime in the forseeable future.
