Default Marantz 7002/8002 best receiver out for 2 hdmi out?

Just like the title asks, is the Marantz the best option for dual outs?

My dad is finishing up his guest house/pool house and is starting to look for a receiver. We designed the setup to have 6.1 ceiling speakercraft speakers in the house. To the left of the setup are four giant sliding glass doors that open up to where an overhang is that leads to the pool. Under the overhang is where we are mounting the projector with two front speakers.

You could probably guess why we need the dual outs, which I would assume is common amongst setups with an lcd/projector. We want to be able to basically play the 6.1 alone or 2.0 alone or 6.1 with 2.0. Is the Marantz the way to go?

They are pretty close in spec. The 8002 obviously costs more, and also has 125w per channel rather than 110 and has gold plated rca connections. I'm not sure if its actually worth spending the money for the 8002 over the 7002. I'm actually in this VERY SAME state as you. I'm trying to decide between the 8002/7002.

Otherwise you've got different name brands and could go with the Onkyo TX-NR905 which is actually more powerful (140w), has 2 HDMI outputs, but also has network capabilities that the Marantz do not have.

However, I do believe that the Marantz would be a better receiver from and audiophile standpoint.

Not necessarily.... The Onkyo has top of the line Burr-Brown DAC's. I'm not sure if the Marantz does or not so I can't comment there. They are both pretty solid recievers, I'm not sure that one is substantially better than the other. Just don't limit your options, the Onkyo 905 is definitely worth a look if you are considering two HDMI outputs.

If you havent already, I would make sure that either receiver can actually output signals on both HDMI outs at the same time if that is the way you want it to work.

If everything else is equal I would buy Marantz BTW.

The warranty itself is worth it even if the AQ is equal (which I doubt).

I know the Onkyo will only do one or the other, not both. From what the sales manager told me at my local A/V store, they Marantz will do both on separate sources. I'm not sure if it will do both on the same source, but from http://us.marantz.com/Products/2204.asp I believe it will do it all.

"Adding to the audio flexibility is a 3rd Zone output (with an individually selectable source!) to make your SR8001 the center of a whole house distributed audio system.

On the A/V side, the SR8002 features HDMI switching (version 1.3) for up to four sources and two display devices. And there’s format conversion to HDMI with Time Base Correction so even your older video sources will look their best. If you’re not quite ready for HDMI (or if your displays aren’t), the SR8002 offers two assignable component outputs, too. One infrared receiver input and two IR outputs add enormous control flexibility as do two DC “trigger” outputs."

I just looked at these both today the SR-7002 & SR-8002 , The SR-7002 is what i was looking at buying. There is only a couple of different things to compare them

1st is 110watts vs 125 watts

and the scaling features ..

other than that not much.

OH AND BY THE WAY BOTH HDMI OUTPUTS CAN NOT PLAY OUT AT THE SAME TIME !!! Only ONE can be selected at a time, This is set up for for dual setups Like a Projector & LCD / plasma /DLP ..So you can have a chice in your viewing..BUT NOT BOTH ..

As I looked and made my choice I'm going with the SR-7002 the price is right and it's upgradedable through the rs232 post ..If you'r using the speakercraft speakers 110 watts will be more than you'll use ,so save your self the money on this one,

Also this is the thrid marantz system I've owned and from me you can't go wrong great EQ and sound QUAL. is far from none , great Warrenty ( though you'll never need it) and BUILT like a TANK..good stuff ,,I'm also waiting on the new Marzntz Blu-ray BD-8002 coming in june,,bit pricey but the repp said it kicks Dennon's in the Butt..LOL,,Good luck
