Default Humming sound when hooking up PS3 component

When playing 2001, Speed, and Ratatouille i hear a humming sound coming through my center channel, but when i play Spiderman 3 i dont...what could the problem of this be?

What settings do you have on your PS3? What receiver are you using? Have you tried another HDMI cable? Try looking at your speaker wire to the center, maybe use different wire to see if it's still there. What audio options are you selecting from the menu of the movie?

EDIT: I see now that you are using component audio outs. If your receiver has an optical input I would use that instead. But checking your audio options for your PS3 would be the first thing to do.

You should go Optical anyways in my opinion.... and see what happens....

Does your receiver "Hum" in the center channel on any other inputs (regular DVD, Satellite etc? )

Default Question

When you get the humming sound do you notice any very faint vertical scan lines that are constantly moving down the screen? If so it may be a ground fault loop or something like that. To fix it you need to get a 3 prong to 2 prong converter for the power plug. Hopefully that helps.
*** I had a humming problem a while back and it only happened on certain titles.

This well could be a ground loop. If this is the case, you may hear it on other speakers as well. The other speakers could hum to a lesser extent due to equalisation. Which speaker hums when it is directly connected to the TV?

Check whether the stereo cables are picking interference noise. Swap left and right audio cables and see whether hum shifts from right to left speaker.

I get humming from my cable and it's driving me crazy. I usually just end up disconnecting it when I'm going to watch blu-rays.

Faulty audio cables could generate hum. That is the reason for asking you to swap left and right audio cables (at the TV set) and check whether the hum moves from one speaker to the other when you swap the cables.

Okay, you said this previously. Also, you said that you get the hum only from the right speaker when connected to the TV. Then I asked you to swap the left and right audio cables from the TV-end and check whether the hum has shifted from the right speaker to the left speaker. If this is the case, it is likely that the audio cable has a problem.
