Question Pirates Of The Caribbean - new box set, no extras?

Hi!

Okay, I'm confused. I just recently got into Blu-ray and one of my first purchases was going to be the forthcoming "Pirates Of The Caribbean" trilogy box set (US edition)

I figured it was a great opportunity to get a guaranteed "fixed" copy of Curse Of The Black Pearl (8 minutes in the original pressing was mis-framed).

But according to the back of the trilogy box I just saw here in the UK the discs are devoid of extras apart from commentary tracks and bloopers. Yet according the Amazon.com the US set contains 6 discs - thus, presumably, all the extras.

Does anybody know exactly what this set contains?

If the extras are indeed missing, would it be safe for me to order Black Pearl from either Amazon or DVD Pacific and be guaranteed that it's the fixed pressing?

Thanks!

If it's not the correct pressing, Disney replaces them for free.

It is mainly just a boxed set for gift giving and convenience.
The only real perk is the fact that you will not have to worry about ending up with one of the older versions that were badly cropped.
All and all though they are the same as out there now.

But I'm in the UK and I really don't want the hassle of getting this across the Atlantic and then sending it all the way back and then waiting for the replacement to arrive (and then find out that it's scratched or something) if I can just get the fixed copy in the first place.

So fixed versions of Black Pearl aren't in the online stores yet?

the problem with the misframed discs seems long ago. i got a replacement right at the beginning. seems to me that the discs that are in stock now would be the corrected versions and the old versions would be depleated.

I have the set, and will have the review up in the next week or so, but it is just all three discs in a slipcover. Externally, this pressing has the corrected "1080p" listing for World's End rather than 1080i. I haven't gotten around to checking if the framing is corrected for the other movie (I would be shocked if they sent out the old one), but I will look into it when I review the disc. All the extras are listed identically on the back of the box set cases as they are for the old singles.

Looking forward to the review. If anyone is not participating in the Disney Movie Rewards program I'll paypal or send an Amazon GC for $10 for the DMR code. I have a brother & nephew who could really use the points & I'd said I would help them so if you do buy the box set & want to knock $10 off of your cost just drop me a pm.

I have one pm which I'll be buying the code. I could still use one or two more. Offer good through Spetember 23rd (last day for the bonus points for code).

There was a problem with the single released movie(s)?

Crap, I just ordered all three movies, seperate version (not this box set) from Japan. Will I end up with an inferior product?

I don't know about the UK version, but the US version has all 6 discs. Since it's a new release, the problem with the aspect ratio on Curse of the Black Pearl is non-existent. My copy shipped out today.

Edit: Here's proof:

And (of course), the first film in the trilogy is absent the framing problems that caused quite a stir last year on the avsforum, prompting Disney to offer replacement discs and to recall a significant portion of the first run of POTC Blu-ray Discs. (Source)

I had to exchange my Copy of Pirates of the Caribbean do to the bad
framing and they sent me a return perpaid label, i sent in the disk and it took
3 weeks to get my new copy.
They used the same paper envelope that i used to send it to them,
and the new disk had markings on it, its a lucky thing that i was able to remove the markings by using a soft cloth.

If not i would have sent it right back to them.

By the way my copy of POTC was the single Bluray, not this box set.

I have still never noticed the framing issue. I assume mine has it since I got it first day. It's not really noticeable is it?

Not all of the discs released on day one had the problem. You were probably spared the annoyance.

In the US version of the box set, the first movie's aspect ratio problem has been fixed, and the label on the third that incorrectly said 1080i has been fixed. All the extras that were in the previous BD releases are in this release. The three movies are all in individual cases inside the box set.

That's what I'm thinking too. I've never noticed it either and I've watched it 7 or 8 times.

Not a single person noticed it for the first several months of the release. And this was a massive BD seller which generated a lot of attention and was seen as a key Blu-ray exclusive in the format war. To this day I believe the minor framing issue found on POTC was only focused on because the HD DVD fans thought it might hurt Blu-ray as a format.

I thought that too, but when I bought all 3 PotC movies separately around August from amazon, I got the misframed disc. But Disney is still replacing them, didn't take very long to get it either.

Just a question: does this include regions outside the US? I'm in Europe and importing the single issue movies from Japan

I have the UK (Region B) version of The Curse of The Black Pearl which I purchased from amazon.co.uk way back in March this year. It has the Framing issue and I have been trying to find out if Disney UK will replace it. So far not much luck! Disney UK say, "Since your purchase was not made from Disney directly, you would be best served to bring this to the attention of the customer service department of the retailer where you made the purchase". Amazon.co.uk customer services say. "Please be informed that we do not have any information regarding the item "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl [Blu-ray] [2003]" which has the framing fault"
I'm currently waiting for another reply from Disney UK.
