Hi,
I'm planing to build a HTPC and ofcourse i want to put a blu-ray drive into it. I'm pretty sure i once saw some requirements listed somewhere around here, for playing back blu-ray movies. Where do i find these hardware requirements? |

I would look at the Pioneer, LG, Liteon or other Bluray drive manufacturer site for requirements to play back movies on HTPC. Item of note, you will wany a good sound card or a motherboard/video card that can handle HDMI or optical sound out, depending on your setup. I know Nvidia just announced a 730i chipset that may be what you are looking for. It looked interesting to me for my future installment.

you can check cyberlink they have a tool to determine specs for using powerDVD8 with blu-ray
usual typical minimum would be dual core processor (2.5ghz+) 2gigs of mem, and an Nvidia 8500 equivalent vidcard and from my exp tha'ts pretty close. |

Thanks guys, this was all very helpful. I'm going to want optical sound out (not through the HDMI) to have it fit with my surround sound setup.

I have a Dell XPS 420 (quad processor,3GB ram and Vista Home Premium) with the Nvidia 8800GT card and use the digital port for audio connected to Logitech Z5500 speaker system. The video card is the key to smooth playback because it transfers all the processing to it instead of the CPU. I can easily watch 1080P content and surf the net at the same time. I have this connected to an Espon 1080P Home Cinema Pro projector, which we absolutely love. I have been extremely please with this setup. Now I am looking at adding a Blu-Ray player to the Dell. From what I have read, the PowerDVD pro is the only chioce to use.
